Default Folder Not Visible in My Computer

I am new to Vista but not Computers.

In C:\Program Files\Course Designer 3, I created a new sub-folder
'2008'. In Windows Explorer, this folder is not visible. In Windows
Mail, it is. In the actual Course Designer software, it is. Why can't
I see it in Windows Explorer?

Thanks.

For safety/integrity reasons, Vista blocks the creation of user files in
certain locations, "Program Files" being one. Instead, user files are
created in "ProgramData", which is remapped onto "Program Files" so that
the creating/using programs think that the file is where they want them.
So when Windows Mail opens "C:\Program Files\Course Designer 3\2008"
Vista performs its sleight-of-hand and actually opens
"C:\ProgramData\Course Designer 3\2008".

Explorer, on the other hand, shows the un-remapped directory structure.

This is documented on Microsoft's website, but at the moment I can't
find the reference.

Vista won't let any files except program installation files be copied to
Program Files.
It uses a virtual store to let programs think it is saving files there.

Your 2008 folder is probably actually located at
C:\Users\youraccount\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Pr ogram Files\Course
Designer\2008

If you use Windows Explorer to go to "C:\Program Files\Course Designer"
do you see a button for "Compatability Files"?

If you turn off that hideous User Account Control "feature", your file will
show up where you saved it. There really isn't any drawback to turning it
off, anyway.
