Default vista internet connection problem: static Ip; works with xp laptop and says it is connected

Hello,

First post so please bear with me.
The basic problem is I am unable to connect to the internet in the flat
that I share. I am running windows vista home premium edition. The
internet is through a bt voyager 220V. I am using a static Ip address
(as is everyone else on the network).

I find vista says I am connected but often find the internet will not
work, sometimes google will work though amazingly slowly and even with
google I often end up using cached pages. MSN messenger does not work,
saying key ports are unavailable.

I have tried turning off the auto tuning, checked the cables and also
tried connecting with my XP machine and all worked well. Straight away,
without a hitch.

Thanks for any help

I am having the same troubles. I've taken off powersaving option, and tried
using a static address, to no avail. It continues to drop off the internet,
run really slowly, and in addition cannot complete any big tasks, e.g.
downloads, active x pages. I will be watching in anticipation to see if
anyone has fixed this problem.

I would check if there is a new firmware for the router. Or this link may
help.

Vista Internet Access IssuesVista: Can't access some secure web sites ...
don't fix the problem, try to use FireFox because some web sites and coding
may not be compatible with IE 7. ...
