Default dhcp on vista home basic

I need help on an issue concerning dhcp on vista

it seems that when I connect a wan device to my ethernet card

vista only sees a local network and cannot connect to the internet ( vista
allows only local access )

my wan device is a wireless canopy unit that our company installs in our
clients homes and businesses we provide a constant broadband connection to
them from our NOC through this device it works fine on xp and used to work
on vista but now i am told by dell that an update to vista has caused a dhcp
issue that is hard coded in the vista os

we have figured out a work around by using a router and putting a static ip
on the cpu but now we run into cost issues and support for the routers as
well

anybody out there know an easier fix to allow dhcp on the ethernet card
