Default Wireless router w/o Ethernetnet cable

I had to use my new HP laptop, connecting Belkin Share 5x; 802.11g to Time
Warner Cable, to set up my network. After about 15 minutes or when I come
back from 'hibernate', etc., I get "Local Access Only". I've replugged the
modem power cord but most times the repair message is to connect a cable to
the adapter.... which defeats the purpose of a laptop. Belkin was installed
first with and then without using an Ethernet cable; I get local access only
message both ways. And perfect Internet when I do plug in the cable.

I've spent hours on the phone with Belkin Support; no luck.
My XP PC, using Linksys adapter, picks up the connection beautifully.

a couple of possibilities
a newer driver for the wireless adapter
turn off the thing in the wireless adapter properties that says...allow
windows to turn this device off to save power...
a different wireless adapter
a new (old) version of Windows that has had time to get most bugs out

Here's my ipconfig info (it was set up without using the Ethernet cable).
Laptop is HP Pavilion dv9410us. And I still mostly have to use someone's
unsecured site for Internet.

you didn't post ipconfig /all output here. you posted it on my blog
as a comment which is not appropriate and I deleted it. please post
the output here just like everyone else does.

without seeing the output posted here, I can only tell you to read
the KB I pointed to initially and try that fix as well as unbind
IPv6 from your NIC.

By the way, in some areas, it is illegal to use someone else's
unsecured network.

Default Wireless router w/o Ethernetnet cable

did you apply the fix from
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b/933872/en-us ?

after you do this, go into device manager, find the wireless
adapter, and make sure that power management is off and the box that
allows windows to turn of power to this device is NOT checked.

if the steps above do not resolve the issue, unbind IPv6
http://digitalmediaphile.wordpress.c...windows-vista/

You should not use any Belkin proprietary software to connect or to
setup your router.

What model # and hardware revision Belkin router do you have? what
version firmware?

You should be able to log into the Belkin router by going to
http://192.168.2.1 - do this with a wired connection. change the
default SSID name to something other than the default and do not use
anything personally identifiable. select WPA2 or WPA as the type of
security/encryption.
