Is there a way to make vista remember network passwords so I do not have to
re-enter them everytime I re-start my computer. I have tried checking the
remember password option but it does not do anything. I have also tried it
with UAC on and off.

I am runnig Vista Home Premium and I want to maintain a network connection
to 2 computers. One is running windows server 2003 and the other is running
windows 2000 server.

Also is there a way to have a VPN connection re-start when a Vista computer
is turned on?

don't need to enter the password.

You mean "Remember my password" in the Connecting To XXXXX dialogue window
doesn't do what it says unless I have the same username on all PCs?

That is out the question; all the PCs have their individual users.

You have not answered the original question. I don't want to avoid giving
the password on the 1st connect. I just want it to remember it, as it
promises, on subsequent connects.

I have networked an XP desktop to a Vista notebook. The XP never asks for a
login even tho the usernames are different, while the Vista always asks for
it on the 1st network access to the XP after switch on. Why the different
behaviour?

IMHO you can not do it with Vista HOME edition. You can go to Control
Panel\User Accounts\Manage Your Network Passwords\Add and see that "A
Windows logon credential" option is disabled. I think (but I've not
checked this opinion) saving of passwords in "Connect to..." dialog and
in account settings works in corporative versions of Windows Vista. I
have Windows Vista Home Premium too, unfortunately :-(

Yes, you are right. I'm on Vista Home Premium networking to an XP MCE (like
XP Pro) and the "A Windows logon credential" option is always disabled
however I get to it.

This must be a bug! What's the point of having a "Remember my Password"
ACTIVE box if it never does what it says? Also I've found a way that M/S
could have removed this box completely if they didn't want it to be
effective; see http://www.pctools.com/guides/registry/detail/1286

As it is, whenever anyone in my family wants to print on the XP's printer
from one of their notebooks (which have their own usernames on), I have to
either walk over to them and type my password OR reveal my password. Not a
very secure state of affairs and hardly a very usable design of home
networking by M/S

Let's hope this bug is fixed in Vista SP1.

IMHO Any version of vista is not suitable for networking, there too modern
and lack good tools like gpedit.msc, unless you get the best versions.
The only way to resolve this is to wait for a service pack that meets the
requirements for what you need (maybe a while!) or install a more reliable OS
such as XP Pro SP2.
I have the same prob on my dads new comp. 4 comps run XP Pro SP2, and one
runs vista. this is the only one that fails to meet even the simplest of
requirements.
