Hi, I have just bought a new pc with vista. My ld pc ran xp.

I have purchased a netgear wireless adapter to connect to my work supplier
router. the router is set up with WPA-PSK and TKIP security, and is set not
to broadcast. I have set up a network account with the correct details.

My system does connect to the network, however, in the network screen the
network is shown as "incorrect security information, WEP security required"

Has anyone seen this before?

Unfortunately I can not change the SSID, the router is work supplied and
that is a pocedure at work, their reasoning is that if no one can see it they
can nt try to hack it.

As I mentioned I have good connectivity to the Internet but still the
connection screen shows "the settings saved on this computer for the network
do not match the requirements of the network" and when the mouse is hung over
the connection the information box states the security is WEP. this is
incorrect. Is there something on my pc I need to change for this to rectify
the message?

I have essentially the same problem as Mark. My router is a Netgear WGR614,
set for WVA-PSK, and no such option is available in my HP laptop Vista
network setup.
Intel fixes won't work for me, since the laptop has an AMD processor.
The laptop does see the router's SSID, but none of the options available
will allow connectivity.
Any suggestions would be helpful.

look for a firmware upgrade for the WGR614. which hardware version
do you have? I know the latest version supports WPA2, WPA, etc.

Thanks for your help. After a false start, I installed the latest Netgear
software on my router, and was able to successfully set up and use the WPA
security with my Vista laptop.
One of the things I learned is that "WPA-PSK" in Netgear talk is
WPA-Personal in Vista-talk. I also had to select TKIP (as opposed to AES).
The process was nowhere near as automatic as either Netgear or Microsoft
promise.

To Joe SP, Thank you so much. I had searched and did stuff for 3 hours.
I had unhooked my router and resigned myself that I would have to get a
new one that said it was Vista compatible. I saw your post and hooked
it all back up (just couldn't let it defeat me) and IT WORKED. Thank
