Windows Vista: weired: need to reboot OS to print by John Goche
Hello, I used to have a Lexmark X5470 All-In-One which included an inkjet printer on Windows XP and when I upgraded to a Windows Vista Home Premium laptop I simply downloaded the driver for it from the Lexmark site. However I would have a problem, namely that more than half of the time I would send the job but it would not print until I would reboot Windows Vista and sometimes not even that...

Windows 7 upgrade experiences by Old Rookie
I have a client where more than a few users are running Vista Business or Ultimate and despise it because of the slow performance, freezes, long startup times, etc. These are typically Lenovo laptops or tablets running Intel Core Duo processors of 2GHZ or better speed and 4G of RAM. In the past I have checked these computers for malware and tried to optimize best I could eliminating uneeded...

I Need to Fix Recent Items... by mccdaddy
I can't remember how to change the default setting of the Recent Items on the Start menu from alphabetical to date order in Vista Home Premium. I did it on my desktop a year ago- I seem to recall it was a Registry change- but on my laptop I'm stuck with the useless alphabetical order. I'd appreciate a refresher.

Where in Registry to change DefaultIcon for File Types? by David4321
1) How can I change the default icons for file types in the registry? I added the key "DefaultIcon" to several file types as listed in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and set the data to the full file path of the icon - I'd have thought that would work. I've restarted, and it did not. Where is the correct location & method? 2) Also: (once I get the correct location & make the edits) How can I create a...

is Kevin sick? by Peter Foldes
Unfortunately he is not playing me. I know this for a fact from his Doc at Walter Reed. He is genuinely injured while serving our country. If you want to continue making fun of him then you have just described yourself. -- Peter Please Reply to Newsgroup for the benefit of others Requests for assistance by email can not and will not be acknowledged.

Windows updates shut down my internet connection, vista 64 bit hom by swedish zeitgeist
For the past week I have had to reboot my computer or set it to previous settings at least three times to access IE. I have no firewall/virus protection and I seem to lose IE after shutting down the computer and allowing it to update. If I back up to a previous date, I will always need updates, but it looks like it is the updates that are cutting me off from IE? What should I do? I am not so...

I don't know how to access it to take some things off. I have all of my photos and graphics on there and I'm scared of losing them. Thank you in advance for your time and any help you might have for me.

Folders by D Van Deusen
I would like to know how I can set up a folder in VISTA to sort items ascending or descending. When I add new items to a folder, i simply want to have the newest items added to the bottom of the folder, as I could with XP. The folder theoretically gives one options; for example, I can hit the little arrow between "date taken" and "Tags" and select "Stack by date taken," but it does not...

Yesterday morning I lost TV channels... by Dustbin[_2_]
I set about re-scanning but ended up with fewer channels. I scanned again and got even fewer channels. I started with 72; then it was 56; then it was 41; now it is 31. All channels were working yesterday. I got an update this morning around 09:00 GMT. Has this got something to do with what is happening to my system? Does anyone know? Yesterday evening (GMT) I received a further update and...

Modify Explorer to show subfolders in folder icon by Pistol Pete
HI: I am not sure why I cannot find this helpful feature. It seems before that when a folder had a subfolder, it would have a plus sign in the folder icon. It seems that it has disappeared in windows 7 and Vista. Is there a way to bring it back? Even more handy would be a map of all the folders above and below the folder that I am in, in the layout pane.. I keep finding subfolders that...

Vista 64 bit - 3 versions of Win Photo Gallery by Wowbagger
As it turns out there are three versions of Windows Photo Gallery on my 64 bit machine: Windows Live Photo Gallery (I'll call this WPG-A) WPG-B that resides under c:\program files\........ WPG-C that resides under c:\program files (x86)\...... WPG-A is just too slow moving from photo to photo - 3 to 5 seconds per flip.
