Display on desktop of broadband speeds. by Wrinkly
If I'm not in the right group I apologise in advance. Broadband speeds. I know it's easy to learn what the current speed at a particular moment is by using one of the many people on the web providong that service. What I cannot find and would find useful if I had it would be a display - rather like the clock at the bottom RH corner, for instance. A display that would show constantly what the...

Uninstall or completly remove Speech Recognition from Vista by Covenant
Hi all, Probably a waste of time asking this (as its probably so embedded into Vista that you can't touch it), but how the hell do you get rid of this speech recognition function ?? It's interferring with a few of my apps (all of which work fine on Vista) that rely on sole access to my mic. Of course, with Vista listening in awaiting any voice commands it can lay it's scripting on, I need...

Desktop names have been changed by PeoplesChoice@Chicago.net
Don't know how this happened - but most of my Desktop file and folder names have been changed. Following is an example: e9193x999233 (12) This is what it was changed to. When Vista SP2 boots, just for a moment the correct name appears. But then, the names change to something like what I showed above. I tried System Restore and ERUNT - no luck. Can anyone tell me how to retrieve the...

windows fails to start by bigslim13
PLEASE HELP !!!! I have a Sony Vaio laptop with factory installed vista. It bought it about a year and a half ago. I tried to turn it on and am getting a black screen with "windows boot manager" and the message : Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem: 1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart the computer.

Closing the Microsoft News Groups by gordo
I have installed NNTPBridge. It is titled "127.0.0.1 and the only set of groups has something to do with MSDN. However, I cannot find the way to download and get subscribed to the groups that are equivalent to the Microsoft Communities newsgroups. Does anyone know if there is a simple procedure somewhere that explains just how to do this? Thanks, Gordo
