vista and xp network prob by
V[_2_]
My vista box can see my XP box, but the XP box doesnt (seem) to see the
Vista box.
The router sees XP and from Vista, and I can ping the XP IP. Vista sees XP
on the network, but I cant access anything on XP. I get the 'Windows cannot
access \\xxx...', error code 0x80070035.
The workgroup names are the same. XP has SP3. What else am I missing?
thnx,

downloads fail on vista by
[email protected]
Hi,
I am managing a web server. It has some applications for download.
The problem is, on some vista machines the downloads are failing.
Sometimes a couple of files are missing, sometimes only a couple get
downloaded. Any idea how I could go about fixing something like this?.
I am looking for general tips on managing a web server.
A little about me - I am C++ developer and a computer...

BEWARE OF AT&T! by
Jack [MVP-Networking]
Hi
There is only one way to avoid this issue.
Given the price of domains and basic hosting there is No reason to use other
email services.
Domain goes for $10-$15 a year. Good countable Hosting for few email
accounts, ftp, and web space, can be found for $2 - $3 a month.
You are your own boss, you look good with your own email (rather than
) for less...

Support for Windows Vista by
Michael
"Gene L." wrote in message
...
I just read that Microsoft is stopping support of Windows Vista effective
April 13, 2009.
I hope this is not true since it means that system updates will be
discontinued and Windows Essentials will no longer provide security for
this Windows application....

How to get rid of password? by
Pete L[_3_]
My wife is being driven mad by the request to change her password on
her Vista laptop about every two weeks. I don't know all that much
about Vista, being a XP man, but I have followed the instructions to
remove password but it always seems to come back.
All she wants is to be able to turn on her laptop in the morning and
never be asked for a password again. Quite simple really - so how can
I...

Can't delete fonts by
TedMi
I want to delete some of the 609 fonts that were installed with Windows
Vista. After wading through file ownerhsip issues, I staill can't get rid of
some of them - I get a message that the file is open in another program. This
happens even for non-Latin fonts which I KNOW are not being used by any part
of the UI. Any way around this?
Thanks.

Error 8007000B or OX8007000B by
suquito
A few weeks ago my computer crashed and the blue screen of death came
up. After trying a number of things to include restoring my computer to
factory settings (which worked for a few days), I reinstalled Vista on
my computer with the CD that came with the computer. I installed
everything like it was a new computer.
I was able to get most of my computer working normal however, I can't

errors on disk by
JS[_2_]
Greetings,
My Mcafee scan has frozen the pc 3 times in the same place, and the Mcafee
tech said there are some errors on the disk that could cause this. There is
a "scandisk" on xp and earlier versions, is there something similar on
Vista? What else can I do to identify and correct these errors?
Thanks,
JS

Can I mount a share to a folder and NOT a drive letter? by
John Mayson
I am running Windows 7, but this would pertain to earlier versions too.
I have access to a share, I'll call it \\SERVER\Documents. I know how to
mount that to a drive letter. That is not what I want to do. Instead I
want to map it to my C:\Users\username\Documents. Is that even possible?
I have searched online and others have asked this only to be told how to
map to a drive letter. ...

Where is Vista Folder I386 by
[email protected]
I want to use System File Checker (sfc.exe) on my laptop. I only have a
recovery partition and no original Vista installation disk. I tried
logging in to my Administrator account, typing in CMD, using it in
Administrator mode - then running sfc /scannow. It gets to 56% then
quits with a message that says it can't complete the process. How can I
check my system files for validity? My Avira...

Vista start-up & networking w/ XP by
Scott L. Robik
I have two questions if someone can assist or at least direct me where to
find some answers. Where is the "correct place" to store start-up scripts in
Vista and Windows 7? Traditionally in Windows XP this is done using local
policy editor and setting the startup/shutdown scripts. Because I have Vista
Home Premium, this feature is disabled. I know this is probably stored some
where in the...

transfer licence? by
jarsek
Hi,
Does anyone know if Microsoft allows you to transfer the licence key (for
say Vista) to another computer if the the first computer becomes irreparably
damaged?
I'm guessing no, but can anyone confirm?
Thanks,

My Computer is stuck in endless shutdown/reboot by
Nspeed
Here 3 days ago i was playing a game on my computer and suddenly it just
shut off.
when i try to start it again the fan is just running for 4 sec then it
shuts down and reboots again. This loop will go on forever and it never
starts. The only way of getting it to stop is cutting the power totally.
I laid my computer to rest for a day and i tried starting again. it
