Powerpoint Viewer won't load despite removal nd reinstallation by
Robin Hardy-King[_2_]
PowerPoint Viewer is not working. Don't know if it ever worked on this
setup. Clicking on the icon produces no reaction except, possibly, a little
hard drive activity. Same if I right click and try to open a PPT file
(associated with PPV). Same file opens fine in Open Office.
I uninstalled PPV and reinstalled after a reboot but there is no
improvement.
Any help appreciated.

Keeping my eye on the troll "andy t" by
Mark Conrad[_6_]
Hmm, Andy is right, we both had trouble with the
email address of that Typing Test website.
I managed to struggle along at a puny 836 wpm
according to that website, with accuracy of 100%
of course - - - results posted there under my name
of Mark Conrad.
This points up what I have said all along, one can not
rely on a "typing test" to show accurate "wpm" speed

Sound volume decreases. by
Geordie
Hi,
My wifes laptop ( Vista home premium) has suddenly developed a problem
with the sound volume. Every time she boots up,the volume has decreased
slightly and then decreases further when she boots again next time.
It has worked OK for nearly one year now but just developed this problem
a few days ago following MS updates.
Any advice to correct this would be very much appreciated.
Thanks

Using System Restore... by
Kathryn[_3_]
I'm having a disagreement with a friend about how System Restore works....
Bottom line... if you go back to a previous restore point -- do you lose
(are they removed) any document files (whether jpg, doc, whatever) you've
created/saved since then -- or does it only effect system / application
files?
Is there a good place on the net you could point me to read more about this?
Thanks in...

"andy t" lie about Vista speech and "WSR Toolkit" by
Mark Conrad[_6_]
"andy t" lie about Windows Speech Recognition and
"WSR Toolkit".
Andy has claimed in all of his posts that "WSR Toolkit"
can fix the severe bug in the Vista speech recognition
app' which is part of the Vista OS.
There is a simple test which proves that wrong,
yet Andy refuses to run that test "properly".

Printing multiple pages by
Trevor[_7_]
Maybe not a Vista thing. I'm trying to print 4 pages of the same document on
one sheet of A - i.e.. 4 x A6 on one page.
I am choosing 'Multiple pages per sheet' from the Page HandlingPage Scaling
drop down menu and 4 pages per sheet..
However the preview window shows only one page in the top left corner, and
this is what actually prints instead of 4.
Can anyone help or point me to a more...

Self-heated computers for Polar countries & North/South Poles. by
Chuck[_2_]
Even full blown military spec. (ground and air) equipment can have problems
at very low or high temps. Such equipment may have pre-heaters installed to
warm up the equipment to an acceptable minimum temperature before it is
fully energized, let alone operable. Such heating systems may (by spec.)
allow the equipment to be used in as little as 5 minutes, or in the case of
some precision...

I am tiring of our resident troll, "andy t",

If anyone else has wants to swap info about

then I would be happy to do so.

Protecting the Windows using Linux by
Karthik Balaguru
Hi,
The internet connection is in Linux (Host OS).
I am just eager to know if i have Windows as a
guest OS on Host OS(Linux), is it less possible
for Windows to get infected by virus ?
If Windows crashes, is there a mechanism
to recover it from Host OS(Linux) ?
Also, is there any mechanism to debug windows
from linux ? Any ideas ?

Vista home - alternative to poor backup utility? by
ferrymanr
I have recently purchased a laptop which comes with Vista Home Premium. Got
it all set up and went to backup but found the supplied backup utility seems
very limited. Is there a way to invoke a complete backup as I had on XP and
2000 or am I forced to use a third party backup utility?

How do you find and delete the temp files in Vista. Not the temporary
internet files, just the temp files that are not needed. Thanks.
