Vista Solitaire by jef
Does anyone know how to configure Solitaire so that you don't receive a nag screen asking if you want to resume your saved game when you open a new game? I have not saved the previous game, nor have I checked in Options that I automatically want to save games. TIA for any light you can shed on this. Jef

Windows 7 32bit on Dell E5500 BSOD on startup by david@dave.com
When we boot up normally or in any safe mode we get a BSOD saying process1_initialization_failed. I've attempted the startup repair and it is unable to solve the problem. I do not have any system restore points that it is finding. When I try performing SFC /Scannow it tells me that a repair is pending and I have to reboot first. Every reboot there after does the same thing. Is there any...

Search by AndyM
in explorer I try to search for a file- it returns nothing. I go to advanced search and check "include non-indexed files..." and it gets the file I need. I have reindexed the drive and checked to ensure both the directory and file types are included and are valid but explorer continues to treat them as "unindexed" help???

Is this realistic? Vista on HD and apps files etc. on another? by Bob
I want your opinion. I need to reformat and reinstall vista. A friend who insists he is an expert told me to partition HD and put the vista operating system on one drive and install and have everything else on another drive. The reason he said is if I need to reinstall vista I do not have to reinstall everything else like I am doing now. I am skeptical. (Definitely do not want this guy...

going back to XP Home by Ralph[_7_]
Bought a Dell 1705 Inspiron laptop back in March '07, with Vista. Wish I had gotten XP Pro instead. Some of my programs just don't like Vista and I find my laptop runs very sluggishly. Wifes Dell Desktop is running XP Pro and works fine. Runs all the programs as they are supposed to run. Older but faster than my laptop. I had an older laptop that came with Windows 98. As it got...

KMS host could not be located by capitan[_3_]
Hello, I am testing W7 for my organization with a technet plus W7 license we have. I have it installed on just one machine, and it is telling me there is an activation error because a KMS host could not be located. How do I address this issue? I am really hoping I don't have to put up a KMS server just to run a test machine. Thanks.

Types of notebooks. by mandysharie[_2_]
To my knowledge a notebook is a regular sized laptop, a netbook is the smaller size laptop, and emachines is a brand of a not so great desktop computer. Out of the three I would pick a notebook all the way.

Need External Hard Drive Recommendations by five256@NOwhere.com
I want an external hard drive at least 1TB in capacity. I have been reading the reviews and they are all over the place. Some professional reviewers rate some of them very good but individual users rate them from excellent to poor (on the same drive). Some say thet're quiet and some say they're noisy. Most users say their drive broke down either out of the box or within one to three months. I...

Removing shadow from text under icons by Marius - Roma
My question is related to Windows 7. I post here as I don't see any more specific newsgroup... I configured the desktop theme as Windows Classic with a white solid background. I see the text under the desktop icons as white shadowed. How can I configure the text under icons to be simply black, wihtout any shadow? I see the same problem even using other desktop background solid colors... What...
