Disable by
species8350
MSWorks Suite addin for MS word.
I keep getting a message from MS Word that my global template has
changed when I close Word, even if I have not started a document.
Evidently, the above addin needs to be uninstalled.
I would prefer to disable this addin, as a first step, to see if it
solves my problem.

vista install over itself and what will be need to do after? by
DJW
If I use my restore discs I made to get vista back working better will
I need to reinstall the drivers for the chipset and sound card and
video? May I need to reinstall any applications I installed after I
last made a restore disc? And will all my files be safe and there
after I do the restore from the discs I made when I first got the
computer?

Taskbar won't show more than two buttons by
Rebel1
If I open two programs/windows, both buttons will appear in the taskbar.
If I open more than that, only two will appear in the taskbar but a pair
of scrolling arrows appear just to the left of the Notification Area
(system tray). I can use either arrow to scroll a desired program onto
the taskbar, then click the button to open its window.
If I select the Show Windows Side by Side, Stacked or...

presentationfontcache.exe - why suddenly becomes a hog? by
Orson Cart
This stupid service uses 99% of one CPU. Okay if you have 12-core
Opteron, but **** if you only got a dual-core.
I looked it up in a few forums, and found how to stop this.
So some might be satisfied with that, but....
... it also affects Win7, so seems like some sort of bug that
Microsoft hasn't patched.
Moreover, I did not install .NET 3. I have a pretty much barebones
Vista install, and I...

How can I speed up my computer by
Me
many web pages are taking 5 to 10 seconds, some even longer, to load.
Programs don't open quickly, either. I have a DSL connection. The OS is
Windows Vista, 6.0.6002 SP 2. per the System info available under
Accessories - System Tools - System Information
The only program open when I wrote this was Notepad. I opened Firefox,
version 7.0.1,, copied and pasted this in here. ESET NOD 32 is...

Programs won't start by
Groundhog Gus
Don't know how Dell works, but I have an HP with Vista Home Premium.
Instead of a disc supplied by the manufacturer, your disk should be
partitioned into a C: and a D:. The D: drive should also have system
saved files on it. If you know the DATE that 'no .exe' happened, then it
might be simple for you. If not, you'll either have to edit the the
registery or completely rebuild the C:...

Desktop shortcuts opening in Word... by
Mike[_36_]
Just recently, URL shortcuts on my desktop will open in Word, rather
than opening the link in IE.
I looked at default programs & .url is set to open with Internet
Browser. I've also tried the KB article, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950505,
but no help.
If I go to the shortcut through favorites, it opens ok & have deleted
shortcuts & sent new ones to desktop, but they still behave the
same...

Programs won't start by
Percival P. Cassidy
I am trying to fix one of my wife's foreign students' laptops with Vista
Home Premium. It boots to the desktop, but no programs will execute:
whatever I try to start, I get the box asking me what program I want to
use to open it, even though it's an .exe program that I'm trying to start.
The student says he clicked on an email even though it looked suspicious
because he assumed that his...

DVD Maker is garbage. What's a good alternative? by
Hexter
Hi,
I just wasted several DVD disks trying to make a DVD
of a home movie. I keep getting a useless error
message with no detail and end up with a bad disk.
What is a good, preferably free, DVD making software
that works well on Vista without making coasters?
Thank you.

Need help diagnosing laptop hanging by
Bob F[_3_]
I've been trying to figure our what is causing an HP Vista laptop (dual core
AMD) to hang during operation. Sometimes it will work for hours, sometimes
barely minutes. The hangs usually shows when you try to do something, and the
cursor will show the "busy" rolling circle. It seems like the harddisc will
initially be cycleing continuously (LED flashing) for a while, then finally it
will just...

windows vista customization (disable blinking titlebar for new windows) by
sobriquet
Hi.
I'm using a java application in both windows xp and in windows vista.
In windows xp, when the java application spawns a new window, it appears on screen
and I can continue working in another application without the need to do anything about the new window. In windows vista however, when a new window is being spawned, the title bar is blinking and the task bar (that I usually have hidden from...

Option missing to allow remote connections by
Rick[_28_]
I am trying to allow external access to my computer so I can access it
remotely. Several sites list a procedure that says to right click
"Computer" on the start menu, choose Properties, click Remote settings,
click on the Remote tab and click on "Allow users to remotely connect to
this computer".
On my Windows Vista Home Premium system, I follow the above steps but the
only option I see...
