Anyone trying 8GB of memory on Vista 64? by
Noel[_6_]
I am putting together a new build and since PC-6400 DDR2 is sooo cheap I
thought I might consider 8GB on an X38 board.
I already have 2x2GB dimms, and was guessing if I went to 8GB it might
be nice to have 4 identical DIMMS, which are still available (ie,
another 2x2gb of the pair I have now).
Anyone have wisdom about this? My main uses NOW are MS Flight
Simulator, Gigastudio, and both of...

Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller (Code 12) by
akagiredsun1
I'm suddenly having USB device issues, and upon closer examination, my
OpenHCD USB controller is now giving me a Code 12 (This device cannot find
enough free resources that it can use.)
The only major updates I've had recently was the last Windows Update. I've
tried removing the offender, and all my USB controllers and reinstalling
them, but it comes back with the same error.
I have the...

Vista Sleep Issues by
mhornet
I've been having some problems with Vista going to not fully going to sleep
and the only way to get it back is to power down and restart. Some times it
works fine and others it hangs. How can I tell what program/drivers are
still active when the computer is going to sleep? IM guessing its a driver
not fully shutting down.
Thanks,
Mike

How to increase system system performance by
Tae Song
I thought I would share this with you all, a few little tricks to boost
Windows performance.
If you have a spare USB flash drive or you are willing to get a cheap say
1GB flash drive.
First we plug in the flash drive.
Go to Disk Manager and assign it a drive letter, like Z: (this is just to
get it out of the way and optional)

I have an HP dv9700z laptop with Vista Ultimate 32bit installed.
I'm up to date all on all updates for Vista, including SP1.
I bought a Microsoft blue tooth notebook mouse 5000 and installed it.

Then it asks me to close the program. The mouse still works however, up

HP Pavillion a1632x by
walter deodiaus
I have a HP Pavillion a1632x which came with XP, but was advertised to be
upgradeable to
Vista. Later on, this option was not supported. This falls on false
advertising! Doesn't HP have trial drivers? I called HP, but they don't
seem to support Vista for this machine.
Last week, I was infected by a virus and was unable to recover my XP OS.
I received a copy of Vista at a trade show, and...

Which disk image creation software is good for Vista? by
Jack
Hello,
In previous years I used Ghost to create the image of my harddrive.
It was simple, easy procedure and very fast.
I booted up computer to the command prompt and restored harddrive in few
minutes!!!
But it was FAT32 system.
Now, with Vista I do not have a choice but to use NTSF file system.
Which program offers the most features for disk image creation?
I know it will be impossible for me...

Getting Error Code 10 in Device Manager for my CD/DVD drive by
vampchick21
Here's the situation.
We purchased a new computer with Windows Vista Home Premium. After the
Daylight Savings time change, the CD/DVD driver developed an error code 10.
Some investigation, and I uninstalled it through Device Manager and then did
a recovery and everything was dandy.
Last night, it happened again. Code 10 and no recognizing the drive. Once
again I go through exactly the...

Cannot write to drive "Media is write protected" by
bogus83
Hi all,
This seems to be a new development, and I'm stumped. I've got three
internal hard drives- one housing Vista Ultimate x64, one housing Ubuntu
8.04 x64, and one being used for storage for both OS's. Up until
recently they've cooperated nicely. Now, the storage drive (drive E:\)
will not let me write to it. I cannot rename, delete, cut, or write any
new files to any part of that drive. ...

only 1/4 is true, it's enough to make me think twice or even thrice about
going anywhere near Vista for a long time yet...
