generic volume poss solution failure see flashdrives/usb ports/rea by
GDS
was having a hell of a time trying to get my Vista x64 system to recognize
all of my card readers and my usb hubs. For the USB hubs it would recognize
2gig or less flash drives but nothing over that and when I opened "my
computer" I didn't see the typical list of all the 'virtual drives' I was
used to seeing. I tried redoing the INFCACHE.1 trick, and edited my registry
to point to system32...

Slow firewire file transfers by
gear02
I have two firewire hard drives plugged into an pci-e firewire card. When I
try to transfer files off either of the firewire hard drives, it's
ridiculously slow at speeds less than 4 MB/sec. This only started happening
after I reinstalled Vista Ultimate 64 bit. I'm not sure what to check to
figure out what's causing this very slow transfer.
Any ideas?

Problem Setting Up Network Printer via XP by
gecko[_3_]
I am a new, just created, VISTA user.
I have it installed on a test machine which is networked to a second
machine which is XP PRO SP2.
The networking is via a D-Link router.
I have two printers, one an EPSON R320, the other AN HP PSC950 AIO.
The EPSON is connected directly to the VISTA machine via USB.
The HP is connected directly to the XP machine via USB.
Each printer prints just fine from...

I still am having problem Setting Up Network Printer via XP by
gecko[_3_]
I just noticed that everything under the HP printer's properties is
grayed out and so I cannot change anything. I thought
ownership/privileges could be the cause of my not being able to print
from this test VISTA machine over my LAN to the HP AIO printer which
is connected directly via USB on my XP machine. But I can't change
anything - I notice other things (e.g. share name) are grayed out...

UMAX Powerlook II Scanner in VISTA Ultimate ? by
gecko[_3_]
I've tried until I am blue in the face. I can't get this scanner to
scan using VISTA. It works okay in XP. I did get it to work once in
Vista Ultimate, but after a crash I had to re-install Vista and now I
can't get it to work.
Several re-tries with different drivers and driver re-loads either
produce no scanning at all or once or twice only partial scans of the
source.
So, I am frantically...

Recent Device Driver Problem by
GeeBee42
Within the last few days (probably since the last big MS update) I now have
problems with using external devices. USB drives, memory sticks, mice are
either OK or always want a driver, can't find it and then sulks. This has to
be caused by the MS updates as everything was fine before then and nothing
has been changed by me. Also, the devices have all worked perfectly for the
last year...

Video card just stopped working by
GeekSr
My system is a Dual boot XP Pro SP3 and Vista Ultimate SP1. Intel 965
chipset, E6700 CPU, 2GB RAM, Lightscribe DVD-RW, with multiple hard drives
and multiple partitions. I was running a Geforce 6600GT 128M PCIe video card.
Last week I was working in XP, and when I booted back to Vista, the monitor
reports no signal. It gives me the boot up screen with the scrolling bar,
then goes black...

Clear Experience Index by
GeekUnit
When I was first messing around with Vista I refreshed my "Experience Index"
thing-y at a time when my BIOS clock was incorrectly set. Now, because it's
in the future, my rating never updates! Is there anyway to _completely_
purge old ratings? I've searched through the registry and I can't find a
thing.
Thanks

No Aero for ATI 9550? by
GeekUnit
According to the online lists I've read, Vista officially supports the ATI
9550 videocard. And while I know the card is no spring chicken, it suprises
me that it rates a lowly 1.0 on Vista's performance rating system.
I just downloaded the newest drivers from ATI and re-ran the performance
check, and it's still the same. Is there anything I can do to enable Aero?
Before you ask, I'm not...

Grabbing XP Drivers by
GeekUnit
I have a few devices whose install doesn't (visibly) extract drivers to any
certain folder, but that runs a setup executable instead. I've found the
best way to get these devices to work in Vista--if they will at all--is to
recursively scan the Windows directory of my XP install when updating the
drivers in Vista's Device Manager. Hope this helps.

horizontal interference at max resolution by
geekyguy
Hi All: I recently upgraded from XP Pro sp2 to Vista.
I have two cards installed: a Gigabit AGP 8x card and an ATI Radeon 7000
PCI, neither of which has Vista drivers or is on the compatibility list.
Under display settings, Vista selected the Radeon 9250 driver for the Radeon
card, and "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter" for the Gigabyte AGP card.
On XP, I was running both monitors (an NEC 17"...

NEC dvd +/- rw ND-3650a by
geelbee
I'm having problems playing sound CD's and movie (video) DVD's on my player.
It plays for 10-15 sec and then becomes unresponsive.
DVD player comes with DELL Demension 9200. Have installed Vista Ultimate
build 6000.
Some say it is the build in codecs from Vista. Other forum says its the
hardware which is causing the problem.
Does someone recognises the same problem?

I have tried the solutions in this newsgroup which have not worked. I
have seen in other postings that disabling certain add-ins might resolve
the issue. But my mouse does not work in the "Word Options" window, i.e.
only the "Popular" tab works. Please help.

Belkin G+ Wireless USB Adapter by

I have Vista 32 bit and I'm trying to connect wireless internet. I bought the
above product as the shop assistant told me if I went on the Belkin website I
could download the driver to work on Vista. However, I can download the
driver and open the files, but when I put the adapter into the USB port the
computer won't recognise it and find the driver. I have tried the adapter on
XP computers...
