How can the name of a dvd or cd removable drive be changed to reflect the actual drive name like Sony or whatever. Mine are now just called dvd drive.

I have an external hardrive that used to work on my laptop (I am using Vista) but now comes up as a generic F drive and doesn't recognise the hard drive.
