ITE 8211F IDE controller - Vista driver does not allow CD/DVD burning by
Ron
Abit IB9 motherboard with an ITE 8211F IDE controller onboard. Vista loads
the native Vista driver fine and the drives show up as DVDRW drives in
Windows Explorer. But under PROPERTIES, there is no RECORDING tab.
Therefore I cannot use the native Vista burning function. This is on a
clean install of Vista Business.
XP on this machine works fine (ITE controller is functioning). Tried 3...

USB devices by
Ron
After the last series of updates to Vista all USB devices that function as
removeable discs have a problem. The problem is that Vista says "the device
needs formatted in order to use". The devices are formatted and work on XP
machines. Prior to the updates the problem did not exist on the Vista machine.
Using Vista Ultimate SP1
Any advice or encountered same problem?

Support for shutdown from UPS signal? by
Ron Holder
Windows XP had support in the Power options area of Control Panel for
UPS-initiated shutdown; I have one of the classic APC Back-UPS that uses a
serial port to connect to the computer and signal it to shut down if the AC
power fails. I cannot find settings for this in Vista RC2. Will I need to
resort to running Power Chute Plus, will it run on Vista? Can't seem to find
any thing in the help...

Default sound devices changes after restart by
Ron Miller
Whenever I restart Windows, the default sound device changes from "Speakers"
to "Digital Output Device (SPDIF)." I end up having to manually reset
"Speakers" to default. I would say that this happens 85-90% of the time I
restart. Why won't the default device remain as I set it? I'm running Windows
Ultimate 32-bit and my sound card is a Prodigy HD2 with the most current
drivers. I'd...

SD Card locks up vista by
Ron P
Hello, running vista home premium. Whenever I insert an SD memory card, as
soon as vista tries to access it, it locks the computer hard. I have tried
3 different SD cards, all the same result. I dual boot with XP and when I
try them in XP, they work just fine. Seems to be an issue with my install
of vista.
Any ideas? Thanks

Vista does recognize optical drive by

from it. Once Windows has control, my optical drive does not appear on either
Disk Management or Windows Explorer. When I load a disk, it does not
autoplay. When I try the Run command, the browser does not show my internal
optical drive as an option.
I have no problems with the external CD/DVD RW drive (USB). I have...

Friend has a flash drive that was working OK, but when he plugged it in
yesterday, it didn't show in Explorer. When he plugs it in it makes the
