How do I use bcdedit to boot from old Vista harddrive on eSata port? by
David J Parker [MVP Visio]
I bought a new hd for my existing laptop which had Vista Ultimate on it.
I removed the Vista hd and fixed it in an eSata enclosure, then loaded
Windows 7 on new hd
I successfully created dualboot on new hd with Windows 2008 R2 vhd, using
bcdedit (with clear instructions from a colleague)
I hoped to add third boot option using bcdedit for the eSata drive so that I
could use my existing Vista...

Freezing on Disk.sys or crcdisk.sys? I've got a possible solution by
veer
My problem started when my lapotp (MSI MS1029) froze when running super
pi and cpu z. Afterwards, when I tried to boot it would hang on the
loading vista screen, and in safe mode it would hang on crcdisk. After
a lot of searching, I think I've found a possible solution:
This is what I did:
1. Leave your laptop running until the battery COMPLETELY runs out.
Like, when you press power absolutely...

Cannot upgrade Vista Home Premium to Vista Ultimate by
C.B.[_6_]
I apologize for the length of this diatribe. Here we go. I bought a new
computer two years ago. It. came with Vista Home Premium 32 bit. I upgraded
to Vista Ultimate 32 bit. No problem. I saved a full image of Ultimate to an
external HD using Acronis. I did a clean install of Win 7 Beta when it was
released.
I decided to remove the Win 7 Beta and go back to Vista Ultimate using the
Acronis...

Grouping Desktop Icons by
Jen Boston
Before I had to re-install Windows Vista, I had a function that grouped
desktop icons into a vertical 'column' on the left of the screen, with
sections headed 'Communicate', 'Office', 'Connect' etc.; by clicking on
these top headings, I could access the set of 2 or 3 shortcuts falling
under each heading, which was a very handy way of grouping shortcut
icons and looked neat. With my newly...

No video (only after overnight sit) by
ker_01[_2_]
I recently had to reinstall Vista after a HD failure. Almost everything is
working as expected. I do have tasks that I want to have run for long periods
of time (usually overnight). I have set my power options to "never turn off
display" and "never sleep". Screensaver is set to "none"
This works for shorter periods of time, but when I leave the PC overnight, I
come back and my monitor...

Installled additional hard drive, now Vista says ...Evaluation cop by
Terry
I recently added 2 gig memory, a new processor and a new hard drive (C) to my
Dell XPS 420.
I used my "(Dell) Reinstallation DVD" to install Vista to the new hard drive
which is now C:. The original Vista is still on the old hard drive (E:).
FWIW, during the new HD install I sometimes booted the PC from the new drive
and the old drive.
At some point, Vista put that "Evaluation copy" at the...

black screen after windows logo with movable cursor by
carm077
Hi everyone. My computer is encountering a black screen with a movable
cursor after the windows logo on start up and I have no idea what is
causing this. When I start from safe mode (safe mode, safe mode with cmd
prompt) it does the same thing.
One thing that I've noticed is that when I run it in safe mode it stops
at crcdisk and continues on to the black screen.
I have no idea what could be...
