Microsoft dampens Vista sales forecast by Wegie
heee he, Vista is failing in the marketplace, just like we all suspected. now there is confirmation. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer believes that sales forecasts for its new Vista operating system may be ³overly aggressive.² http://www.macworld.com/news/2007/02/16/vistasales/index.php http://www.reuters.com/article/ousiv/idUSN1519795020070215

Are MVP "advisors" volunteers? by Wegie
Mark Conrad wrote: Are MVPs on the payroll, or merely volunteers? If not, do those people get any sort of kickback from Microsoft, such as a discount on software? Would it be a good idea for Apple to employ "MVPs" also, or not? no. and if the posts in the vista groups are any indication, most of

UAC should have been a Business class feature, not for Home Users by JD Wohlever
I hate to say so MS, but your average joe, the person you are making UAC for, is going to do exactly what they are doing, that is turning UAC off. Example, my mother is your basic Internet User. She just graduated from AOL to a normal broadband connection after me telling her for years how much better broadband would be for her. She bought a PC that had Vista Home Premium on it. Suddenly...

XP Death Watch by [email protected]
XP Death Watch http://www.infoworld.com/article/08/05/27/XP-deathwatch-T-minus-five-weeks_1.html Even though it has had its own problems of late, Windows XP remains the most-used version of Windows. The newest data from Web metrics vendor Net Applications, for example, pegs XP as driving 73 percent of the personal computers that went

can't install 5840 - please help by moto
i'm trying to install 32-bit vista build 5840 as an upgrade to build 5744. when i run the installer from with my current vista installation, it rejects my product key with a message of "windows installer has encountered an error and needs to be restarted." i figured this would happen since my product key is a beta key and 5840 needs a RTM key. but, my intentions were to push through the...

Vista Product Keys? by Nigel Molesworth
Does anyone know how the Vista Product Keys are going to work? Let me explain why I ask. I have 5 PCs in my household, all with XP Home or XP Pro. Eventually I will want to upgrade them the Vista Ultimate, Home, or Home Premium, depending on their specifications and usage. In the past I have always bought "upgrade" software, but it's a real PITA having to insert the old CD, so I figured if I...

Run Vista legally for at least one year/ Vista Activation doesn't stop Piracy by Chad Harris
Brian Livingston has a new trick: Microsoft has built into Vista a function that allows anyone to extend the operating system's activation deadline not just three times, but many times. The same one-line command that postpones Vista's activation deadline to 120 days can be used an indefinite number of times by first changing a Registry key from 0 to 1. This isn't a hacker exploit. It...

Transferring Programs and Files by jagaman
I transferred my files over from my old Win-XP Pro to my new Windows Vista. Office 2003 Pro did not transfer over; all the documents and files did. Is it impossible to transfer Microsoft Office when you upgrade?

Vista Sucks! by Peter
You see many people posting here with problems because the majority of people, who have no problems, don't bother to post here. It's not Microsoft's fault that such and such hardware or software doesn't work...it's the manufacturer of that stuff that is to blame. -- Peter Toronto, Canada XP Pro SP2 x 2 + Vista Ultimate P4 HT @ 3.00ghz, 4.0gb RAM, 700gb HDD

Hello! Is anyone else having problems installing this speific KB937287 update? I am unable to get it to stop showing up in my 64-bit Vista UE's Windows Update even though it was a success. All other today's updates were fine except one (KB937287 failed) and then rebooted, but now KB937287 keeps showing up even after successful installs. Someone else noticed this too:...

The stupidity continues. Now a very popular printer doesn't work right under Vista by Adam Albright
I have a Epson Photo 900. I use this to print directly on CD's and DVD's. Just had a "web chat" with a Epson "service" guy and he tells me it isn't fully supported in Vista because it comes with a "in-box" driver, that of course doesn't work with Vista since the printer is a couple years old. They do have a new driver and supposedly that's included with the Vista DVD. HOWEVER... My experience...

Will MS allow me to buy Vista early? by Dr. Edison
Hello, I was able to download the RTM version of Vista. What I'd like to know is will I be able to buy it online after I install? Or will I just be allowed a couple days to use it before it disables itself? Thanks, Edison

RC-1 Installation Termination by Vista in Tampa
I am trying to upgrade Vista Beta 2 to RC-1. It makes it fine throught the compatibility test. When it reaches 10% on the file copy task it simply says that it encountered an error and terminates the install. Is anyone else encountering this problem. Any known fixes?
