Need to understand permission and ownership by
Luis Ortega
I am completely lost on trying to understand the process of accessing my
folders and files on vista.
I am the only user and have only one administrator account with my name.
There are also some other folders such as:
all users, default, default user and public in my users folder in the c
drive.
What I want to do is simply have access to all of the folders and files
on my computer.
How does...

rename and autologin by
phoenix
I am conducting a scripted computer rename and move within AD usinf WMI
and vbsript .. once this has completed the computer restarts.. often I
find the autologon fails (not all the time), and it's quite random and I
cant really explain why.
A manual login will work, but the autologin will not.
We have looked at AD replication and this appears to be ok.
We have also tried delaying the...

For those of you who were like me; who updated your cracked version of vista only to find out that the update to SP1 would only deactivate your cracked copy, and not be able to find a way to reactivate it. Technet Home Basic Product Key by
Burt Johnson
I've got Windows vista Enterprise via my volume licensing/software assurance.
Supposedly this allows me to run as many instances of Vista as I want as
virutal machines running on my Vista Enterprise host system. I want to run
an instance of Vista Home Basic as a virtual machine for testing purposes but
don't seem to have a product key that will work with it. I've got Business,
enterprise,...

Upgrade Win Xp to Vista Home Premium - Windows Easy Transfer by
Pat Garard
This required a clean install - ok!
I can use WET/XP to transfer settings etc to a USB 80MB external drive.
I THINK that I need to:
1. Upgrade to Vista
2. reinstall apps
3. use WET/Vista to restore the settings from the USB drive.

Vista Business Upgrade - Can I use XP Pro on another PC? by
Mike in Nebraska
Just upgraded a PC to Vista Business; the license is an upgrade. Does is
still "tie" the original XP Pro license to the PC, or can I use it on
another PC or laptop?
TIA,

Force SoundMax Driver Install by
Van G[_2_]
I'm installing Vista on an old box for my Mother to use for web & email.
Asus Terminator P4-533A (uses P4SC mobo)
Install went smoothly but Windows Update made the same mistake as it
did when using XP on this box: it identified the onboard Audio chipset
as SIS 7012 instead of SoundMax AD1980.
Vista will not let me update to the SoundMax drivers. XP did the same
thing but I found a work around...

obsolete USB Scanners and Vista by
Vangellis
For those of you who have USB scanners that Vista has reported to be
incompatible, do the following.
1- Make sure you have your scanner installation CD
2- Unplug the USB lead from the scanner to the computer.
3- Restart Vista
4- Plug in the USB cable for the scanner to your computer.
5- Vista will state "new hardware found, searching for drivers" let this
finish, you will then be prompted for...

Not all users are "stupid" by
Bjoern Sandvik
Hi,
I would just like to make a statement to hope for a more streamlined
deployment of Microsoft Windows. This would neccessarily apply to the
upcoming version.
While I am lenient to commend Microsoft on their efforts to make Windows as
broadly accessible as well as safe, I have to say that I am greatly dismayed
as an IT professional.

Vista Image Problems by
sprocket1066
We are having problems with imaging our Vista laptops.
Current setup is, small boot partition then large second partition for
Vista C:. This is because we are going to use Bit locker to encrypt the
main drive for security so the boot drive (system drive from MS eyes)
and Vista partition (Boot drive from MS eyes) cannot be the same.
Setup is very similar to systems sent to use by HP or Dell where...

Retail Media + OEM serial (both legit) = No activation. by
JWhipple
My wife's EMachine PC came with an OEM load of Vista Home Premium
installed on it. There was no media included.
We had to install XP Pro on the machine because of some classes that
she was taking. Now that said classes are over with, she wanted to go
back to Vista.
Unfortunately now we couldn't do a restore back to the original factory
load - something got hosed up when we went to XP.

Windows Vista Home Premium by
tran
My son has messed up his installation of Windows Vista Home Premium (came pre
installed on his desktop) and I'm trying to fix it for him. He is currently
running Windows Vista Home Premium and every time the desktop loads it comes
up with the error message 'Windows Explorer is Not Responding'. Is there
anything I can do to fix this?

New Setup Vista SP1? by
Peter Schirmer
Hi all,
a few days ago I've downloaded Vista SP1 via MSDN. While setup runs I
think I've seen a difference to setup without SP1. The screen was black
with a white text saying what setup does for the moment.
I'm sure that this screen is new. Does anyone know somthing about it?
Are there (other) changes in setup?
Peter
