Final Release Installation Question by
Ben
I read an article from a tech website that said users that have RC1 may not
be able to buy the upgrade version of the final release. That we'll have to
get the full version, which is significantly more expensive. Is there any
veracity to this?

needs DVD ROM device driver by
BrianD
As so MANY have posted before me...
Trying to install Longhorn Aug CTP.... Clean install, hard disks have been
wiped. After it boots from the DVD without a problem and starts the install,
THEN it claims it needs a DVD/CD device driver. Funny.
For reference I am using a Toshiba SD-M1401 drive.
Anyone have info on where I can get this "driver"? It's sitting on a PERC
3Di and I tried giving...

Can't find partition to install onto by
Auutumn
I used Acronis Disk Director v10 to create a new 40GB partition. I then
installed Windows XP Home onto that partition and when I ran the Vista
program, the Upgrade option was disabled. I tried doing a clean install but
the partition wasn't listed.
Any ideas on why Upgrade wasn't available and why the partition wasn't listed?

Multi boot XP pro and Vista by
John Czahor
I have 2 HDD in my system. Drive 1 is XP Pro and Drive 2 is Vista. The only
way I was able to install vista was to unplug drive 1 from the motherboard
and setup 2 as the first drive. I would like to be able to multi-boot between
the two OS. How can I modify the Boot.ini to achieve this?

Upgrade from 5600 to 5728 by
mrchambo
Just upgraded last night. Took 1 hour and 40 minutes. Only issue was with the
driver for the Mass Storage Controller. Did not find appropriate driver.
Still not resolved as of today, but no impact on operations.
Flawless except for that one minor issue.
And am very pleased with 5728.
Thanks, Microsoft!

Clean Install Fails by
TSR Webman
I want a multi-boot system - existing XP-home - and Vista just to have a look
at it
(I'm a PC salesman and will no doubt have to sell PCs with Vista early next
year)
I tried and failed - any advice on how to create this, or what went wrong
please.
I shuffled by partitions and created an empty 50GB primary partition (Drive
G:), using partition manager under XP home, (fully updated).

Exploring Windows, Oct 3, 2006 by
Phillip Schlueter
Folks, here is what MSFT is saying: "Windows Vista: Now available for test
drive
Did you miss the last opportunity to try Windows Vista? Now is your chance.
If you're tech-savvy and comfortable running beta software, we invite you to
try Windows Vista Release Candidate 1 (RC1), the latest pre-release version
of Windows Vista."
I don't think this sounds like MSFT is trying to discourage us...

NO AUDIO DEVICE OUPUT IS INSTALLED by
jbbobvista
What version of Vista 64bit or 32bit?
If you are going to use the 64 bit and you have a realtek sound card, you
can goto hp and search for 64bit drivers for the ac97' sp30305 worked for me.
You have to also disable your UAC and disable your driver signing. That may
work for you, Good luck.
