I download the software iTunes on my computer and while it is downloading, a message saying "Windows Explorer has stopped working" and it just repeats itself over and over. I get the SP to install at Stage 3 100% then it says failed, reverting changes. I tried no pagfefile, disabling soundcard, unplugging all USB items, disable system restore, uninstall kb941649, disabled all non-M$ services and all start-up items, via MSCONFIG and rebooted first. After Start from Shut down mode, I get a black scrn with white computer jargon. At the bottom of the scrn is F1 to retry boot, F2 for Setup Utility. Pressing F1 gets me to the Vista Welcome scrn and everything seems OK. Restart from Sleep mode is OK. How do I avoid this black scrn from Start? Is the machine still under warranty or service contract? Why did you reinstall Vista? What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall (if any)? Which updates did you install?
