Cannot Share my Printer from my Vista Notebook by
cookie666
Hi
I am running an XP Home SP3 with a Dell A940 printer connected via USB.
I have a Dell Laptop running Vista Home Premium that can see the
network but when I try to add a printer I get the message "Windows
cannot connect to the printer, Operation Could not be completed
0x0000000d"
I am also running Norton 2008 Internet security on both machines.

a new drive . . . and I'm trying to restrict access to that drive to
just one user. (There are two user accounts, the one for which I'm
trying to restrict access is a Standard account.)
First, I successfully hid this drive following the instructions...

Can't Access Win 2000 Share from a vista computer. by
Jim Bryan
We have 3 W2k computers and a new vista computer. The Vista computer cannot
access the shares on ONE of the Windows 2000 computers. The network is peer
to peer and with the exception of the Vista computer accessing this
particular Win 2000 computer, everyone can access everything. (we are trying

Vista adds computername\ to username by
Poisondwarf
Hi, I'm on RC2 7544 and am trying to map a network drive.
When entering username and hitting connect, it adds computername\ to the
username, giving:
computername\username which cannot log in
I can't change the username on the server to that as wouldn't accept \.
How can I stop it adding the computername\ ?

Suddenly can't browse network over VPN anymore by
ben@zeydon.com
Hello,
We have some Vista Business Laptops that use a VPN connection to our
SBS2003 server. The VPN works just fine from all laptops, except that
on one of them we suddenly can't browse the network anymore. This used
to work before and works from all other laptops. What's even more
strange is that the VPN connects, I can ping all network computers and
Exchange connects without any problem. So it...

Can a folder be shared without being administrator? by
Rodrigo Monteiro[_2_]
Greetings,
in our AD2003 domain, we are now installing Vista computers for our users.
The users are all in the Power User group.
We usually created a folder for each person on each computer (ex: C:\JDOE)
which then becomes the Documents folders.
Now, problem is, users can't share folders inside that C:\JDOE (or anywhere
else it seems), without being computer administrators. When they try to...

Is there any website which reviews servers? by
husky86
Is there any website which reviews servers, particularly entry-level servers?
Our small business is considering getting into an entry-level server. We all
know about PC World and PC Magazine, for example, when it comes to reviewing
personal computer products. But is there a similar site for business-level
products (in this case servers)?

Socket blocking issue on windows VISTA by
Sycki
Dear Sir/Mam,
I have written a server code using the Windows Socket API's. Wherein I have
created the socket and bound it to a particular IP address and port number.
Later I have made the socket in non-blocking mode by using the proper socket
option ( i.e. SO_RCVTIMEO). After which with the use of recv() I am trying to
get into the receive mode. Here as the receive time out is being used...

to my home. My home network has a Vista Home Premium machine on it.
UNfortunately I found out I can't join the Domain with this OS. Anyway, my
Domain Controller has DHCP running on it, but every time I start it, it fails
right away and I get this msg in the log:

One more try at file sharing between Vista machines by
Warren[_5_]
I've asked before without much luck. I can't be totally stupid because both
my Vista laptops have no problem reading files from my Win98SE PC. But for
some silly reason I can't get either Vista laptop to browse and read each
other's Public folder. Now if anything, that should be a no-brainer,
sharing files between Vista machines, but it isn't.
I have a Vista x32, Vista x64 and Win98SE...

Networking result not as expected by
tempgal
Hi, All --
I have a new Vista laptop that I would like to connect to the network at
work. While I am the administrator of the network, that is only because I
am more knowledgeable than my boss, but my networking skills are by no means
on a professional level. I usually experiment with my home network until I
get the desired result, then apply it at work.
Equipment is as follows:

Vista and Office 2007 One Note by

I just started to learn One Note and set up a Notebook that "says" it is
shared. When I went to my other computer (XP) I received a message about
Permissions and Access Denied. I returned to this computer (Vista) and
did all the necessary sharing of the One Note Notebook and the Notebooks
within the main folder, in Properties, with Security and Sharing tabs,
even Advanced to be sure that Myself...

Windows 2003 DC disappeared from netwwork view by
Larry Heimendinger
My DC rebooted after an auto update a few nights ago and has now disappeared
in the network map from all Vista machines on the domain. However, shares
mapped to the DC still work, but browsing does not since the machine no
longer is visible.
Interestingly, none of the Vista machines appear in Network Neighborhood on
the DC either.
Any ideas on this? Probably will turn out to be a group...
