is it possible to share the printer only? by someone@somewhere.com
When you turn on file and printer sharing, both file and printer sharing are turned on. Is there a way to turn on printer sharing only? by default, c$ is always shared on windows XP pro, I am not sure about vista/windows 7 home premium. So there is some security risk with file sharing, while there is less risk with printer sharing. The PCs are behind the firewall, however, there is a...

Wireless Connection by Connie[_3_]
I have a laptop and I'm trying to find out if I can use it at Starbucks and Panera and if so how? Do I need any special software or do I just connect to theirs? I don't understand how it works...obviously.

Networking DOA: Unidentified Network, Access: Local Only by Dave Bonnell
Upgraded from RC2 to RTM a week or so ago. Networking was working fine for a week and then after a reboot the network is no longer accessible. Network adapter reports: "Unidentified Network" and "Access: Local Only". Trying to renew DHCP fails and the adapter gets assigned a private IP (169). Disabling/reenabling the adapter makes no difference as does uninstalling and re-installing...

Shared Folder disappears after a while by asperamanca@gmail.com
Hi all, I have a network with a Vista and an XP computer. I have created a "transfer" share on the Vista machine that I want to use for reading and writing from the XP machine. The user names and passwords are different between the computers, so XP prompts me to enter user name and password whenever I access the folder. When I enter the correct info, everything works - I can access and write to...

Consistent packet loss with Vista by Guy
I was noticing odd disconnects running networked application on my laptop since installing vista on it. After quite a bit of delving, what I'm seeing is this. I'm using ping as a way of checking for network connectiveity, it is a basic but seemingly effective way of seeing how well I'm connected. When I test my connection by pinging a known machine from vista I get a pretty consistent...

Printer sharing-1 laptop says driver missing but OK with other pc/ by bobal
I have a wired home network set up with 1 pc and 2 laptops using vista and 1 pc using XP. I have a Dell AIO printer linked to the XP PC and have just installed a new Epson printer to the Vista PC. Here's my problem - all PCs and laptops recognise each other and recognise both printers. Both PCs and 1 of the laptops are connected to both printers but 1 of the PCs will not connect to either...

XP Sees Vista Machine In Workgroup Computers, But Not Shared Files by Glen
I was able to set up both of these machines so that they could see each other on the network, but my XP machine will not see any files in the Vista Machine. When I double click the Vista machine with the workgroup computer section, it takes it a bit, and then says that the path is not available. The Vista machine ID was populated on it's own when I clicked on to view network computers, so...

How do I create a home network b/w a Vista PC and a Windows 7 PC? by davey1108
We'd like to be able to access files and print from both PCs. Is there a tutorial (preferably official) on how to do so when we're dealing with 2 different OS?

HELP-can't get laptop to connect to network printer by bobal
Thought I'd posted this before but can't find it. I have 1 PC and 2 laptops on Vista and 1 PC on XP. There are 2 printers connected to the 2 PCs, all the computers are linked to a home network. Here's my dilemma - whilst both PCs and 1 laptop are connected to both printers I cannot get one of the laptops to connect to either printer. It recognises both printers but when I try to add them I...
