Windows Vista Loses Wireless Profile on Reboot by
sgeoffrey
Windows Vista Notebook just purchased at Christmas from Dell, with a
Linksys WRV200 wireless router.
Wired access via this router works great from a separate computer
(desktop).
However, wireless access has some strange issues. Can create the
wireless profile and enter the WPA password and connect to the router
wirelessly just fine and surf away. But, after the notebook is
shutdown and fired...

Network Disconnecting by
S Murder
I have a Tablet PC running Vista Home Premium. Every time it comes out of
sleep mode (when I open the case), it attempts to reconnect to the wireless
network, and a lot of the time it connects but the network says unidentified
and I can't connect to the Internet. I end up having to disable my network
card through the Network & Sharing Center and then enable it again (using the
switch on my...

Vista IPSEC and NAT by
db@facton.com
We have a lot of IPSEC tunnel clients with Windows XP behind NAT
working fine (home offices, cell phone clients, ...). Tests with
Vista
SP1 are showing that build-in IPSEC / NAT doesn't work any longer
(without NAT it still does).
I found the solution http://support.microsoft.com/kb/944335/en-us
saying that it is by design.
Compared to XP this is an unacceptable regression, Vista claims it

File sharing authentication by
John Skandar
When I access a folder shared on another Windows PC, I'm prompted to login
with and user and password of that PC. When I login, the folder is
accessible, until I shut down the client or disconnect the user. I want to
manually logout from the shared folder! How do I do?
This is my typical scenario: I want to access my files from another person's
computer, but I don't want my folder is still...

Connected to Internet, Can't Browse by
david.beardsley@gmail.com
I've been experience a strange problem on my Vista laptop for months.
I'll be connected to the internet, and eventually lose my ability to
open web pages in my browsers, but I'll still be able to ping servers,
resolve dns names, etc.
I use a virtual machine for work, and often within the virtual
machine, I will still be able to browse pages, but not within the
host.

network, the router isn't detected (even though I tried placing it right next
to my PC). I have a working RALINK network card and have tried reinstalling
the drivers...

Good Luck with your file sharing. by
JCrosley
The new file sharing "features" of Vista are the primary cause of it's utter
and complete failure. Vista lacks backward compatibility with windows XP
file and print sharing. If you want to share files with xp you will have to
install LLTD package on the xp pc. Also, the different capabilities of home
basic, premium, ultimate, and business overly complicate what should be very
simple, and...

Desktop Network icons??? by
OldManEd
I now have two identical(?) desktop icons, both labeled "desktop.ini." Their
contents are different and, apparently, were created as a part of file
sharing.
I want ONLY 3 icons on my desktop: Recycle Bin, Network and Windows
Explorer. Everything else is either in QuickLaunch, Start Menu or All
Programs. Can these icons (files) be moved somewhere else? Anywhere!!

Tried for a month to get USB Linksys adapter to work and it never was
relaible and had to be reset repeatedly. Got PCI card linksys and it worked
much better but really want to go to N wireless but afraid that the existing
USB N adapter's won't work as well as a N PCI or PCI express card would. Not
any N PCI cards certified to work with Vista
Have added antenna's to router and to PCI card...

All browsers stopped working. Empty HTTP packets are sent and rece by
PA Bear [MS MVP]
I'm using Windows Vista Business on my notebook.
Yesterday all browsers (IE7, Firefox) stopped working. I did nothing. I
didn't install or uninstall any software, didn't change any settings (but
may be windows installed some updates).
When I'm trying to open any website a browser resolves host name properly,
connects to the server and is waiting for response. That's all I get.
