Wireless networking - "Identifying ...(Public Network).." by
The Thinker
Hi,
I'm having a strange wireless networking problem. I defined a private
network in Vista, complete with wireless network connection & key.
When I reboot my laptop, it does not auto re-connect to this (only
network I have defined), instead it tries to create a new public
network (message "Identifying ...(Public Network).." appear in Network
and Sharing Centre), with access type of Local Only...

vista networking by
hugh welford
Hi
I have 2 machines one with vista home premium and the other with vista
ultimate that I need to network to a WIN2000 server. When I try to map the
network drive, vista insists on putting the computer name in front of the
username, and so I am refused log-on.
I have tried set a login credential username/password in vista ultimate
(home version wont let me do this). The credential is...

Computer Wrongly Identified on Network by
tempgal
Hello --
Need help on behalf of a friend, please. She has an XP and a Vista 64-bit
computer networked by means of a router. Her printer is also connected to a
router.
She is not particularly computer literate and is sometimes inclined to not
pay attention to what she is doing, so strange things happen.
Today a message appeared saying that all network drives could not be

Is it possible in Windows7/Vista to automatically dial to a VPN account when
an attempt is made to an IP of that network?
maybe by static routes or RRAS service?

Help - setup file share between WinXP and Vista on a home network by
User66
It has been years, we have been transferring files between our home PCs and
Laptops in our home network. But as we updated our Laptop with Vista SP1 &
SP2, the network has become a one way only. We can transfer files to the
rest of the network PCs, but the Vista Laptop does not let us in. We do see
it listed in our network.
We had to re-format the laptop drive and as we loaded the Vista...

How to Set up a kdc kerberos server on vista business edition by
nick
hello ,
I have a vista business edition ACER machine.
I am trying to setup kerberos so that I can use it for authentication
in my JEE (java) application that is running on Glassfish. In my case
I will have both the Kerberos client and server on the same machine
since I am mainly trying to set up a demo and don't have access to two
machines. After figuring out the JAAS infrastructure for...

Vista and XP by
Jenny-72
I've tried this method with my Epson Stylus Photo 895 attached to a Windows
XP Pro workstation but Vista x64 just asks for drivers because they aren't on
the XP Pro machine.
The problem is, the drivers are only available on the Vista install CD and I
can't find them.
I've tried connecting the printer to the Vista x64 machine but face similar
problems from the XP Pro machine.

Help: What is the administrator password? What if I've never set i by
john ha[_3_]
I have heard of the "administrator password" for a super-administrator.
But I have never "set" the "administrator password" or "super admin
password".
I do, however, have a user account with admin privileges that I set a
password to.
Is that the same thing? Does my creating a user account with admin
privileges and password make the password for the super-admin the same, or

Win 7 WPAD stops working by
Jeff Vandervoort
I use my Win 7 notebook on an office network with a proxy during the day,
and on my home network w/o proxy at night. Used to be that WPAD configured
the proxy settings for me, but it stopped working a week or two ago; don't
recall when. I have to manually turn on "Use a proxy server" at the office
and turn it off again at home. "Automatically detect settings" is turned on.
Any idea how I can...

Both are the same model, but one (that gives trouble) has
some additional hardware (video) features. Both are running
Vista Home Premium 64 and have all the updates applied. I am
trying to open a RD session on an XP Home Pro machine.
One of the HP's works without a hitch. The other one gives
up with a "Cannot Connect" message (but,...

Hello, my question is to verify if these statements are true,
I wanted to email these guys personally but
I understand it's better to share this with everyone.
The questions concern if hackers can break into my Vista computer
and access the hard drive's files,
if my laptop is wirelessly connected to an unsecured router
(meaning they connect to the unsecured router, and connect

Security tab error by
Ken W
There are certain files on our network that whenever I attempt to look at the
security tab, the following error comes up (preceded by a red X) "The
requested security information is either unavailable or can't be displayed."
I'm the creator, and I can open, edit, and save the file, however, no one
else can. What causes this and how can it fixed and avoided?

Lost Network Connection by
Wolf Pack
I am working on a friend's Dell Optiplex 330 running Vista SP2. The Broadcom Gigabit Controller is showing enabled and functional in Device Manager but does not show in Network Connections. IPCONFIG /all shows the hardware connection with specific DNS entries. How do I get the connection to show in Network Connections so I can change the configuration to automatically assign IP/DNS?
