onecare and installed service by
Brent Shum
OneCare 1.5 turned off file sharing, network discovery, public folder
sharing, printer sharing, etc. When I use Network and Sharing Center to turn
it back on, I get a dialog that says "The specified service does not exist as
an installed service". Any thoughts?

LanMan service stalls by
MarcelD
I am using RC1 and having trouble with startup. Booting the computer takes
more than 10 minutes. Fortunately I am able to crank up Task Manager in that
time, where I noticed that the 'server' service is stalling for a long time
before it loads. I confirmed this by disabling the service, after which the
computer starts up normally.
I haven't seen any reports in these newsgroups about this...

Bluetooth Internet sharing for Palm by
acerswap
I want to share my internet connection using bluetooth as a "null modem", but
I can't find how. Bluetooth options have changed after XP SP2 and "direct
cable link" is not longer available. Do you have any solution for this?

Can't create network connection by
OnesmooveAlpha
I use a cable modem to connect to the internet through Comcast. I don't use
PPPoe to connect to the internet. There is no username and password to
access my connection. I just use "Automatic Configuration - DHCP".
Vista doesn't allow me to select this option in order to connect to the net.
Is there something I'm doing wrong?

XBox360 accessing shared directory on Vista by
xebec
Surely this is possible, but I have not been able to figure it out. I can
connect to Media Center from my Xbox360 to my Vista PC no problem. The
problem I am having is that I want to be able to access the shared folders
(pics & music) without having to go into Media Center on the Xbox 360. I can
already do this with WindowsXP, but cannot figure it out on Vista. You may
say why do this...

peer name resolution protocol service by
Martin
taI can't get meeting space to start. I get an error: "Meeting space cannot
start because a peer-to-peer services failed". When I trace down the actual
service that fails to sart, it's the "peer name resolution protocol service".
It refuses to start, and gives the error code 0x80630203. When I trace that
error code, I get:
"One or more of the dependent services could not initialize. The...

I can confirm that I am having the same issues. I work for the ITI Data

like I would in XP.

Vista VPN Server? by

I got it set up. I went to the Network Connections folder. Then I went to
the File menu and chose "New Incoming Connection".
If your File menu isn't available, click "Organize - Layout - Menu Bar".

Network browsing problems in Vista RC1 by
Mando
I have 3 computers hookup to my network. Two of them have XP and the other
Vista RC1.
I can see all three computers in the network in each computer.
In Vista I can browse the file for each computer. The problem that I have
is that in the XP one when I try to browse the document for the Vista one I
get the following error:
\\Vista RC1 is not accessible. You might not have permission to...

REmote Desktop Connection problem by
The Don
Hi
I am able to remotely access my company server through XP's Remote Desktop
Connection.
I've recent installed Windows Vista RC1, and for some reason RDC doesn't
seem to work.
When I try to connect, first I get a 'Windows Security' box saying 'Looking
for credential tiles...', then another box appears, saying 'Remote Desktop

Where is 'Search for computer' option under Vista by
Al
In Windows XP, I can right click on My Network Place and there is an option
'Search for computers....'. Where is this feature in Windows Vista?
The challenge I have is, I have two routers connected to each other
(wireless and non-wireless). In XP, I use this 'search for computers...'
feature to find computers under the other routers (they have different
192.168....) ranges.
Can someone...

setting up onboard wireless as AP by
Robert J. Schesel
I have an ASUS P5AD2-E Premium Motherboard and in XP I can configure my
onboard wireless as an AP by bridging the wireless and 1 of the LAN
connections. (by using a GUI utility) but in vista the only thing that I can
do is use my wireless as a network adapter. Is there a way to configure this
in vista as in XP?

Wireless Slow When Unplugged by
patchmonkey
When I run on battery power, the wireless connection is absurdly slow. I'm
trying to see if there's a setting I am missing, but I'm not sure what would
cause this - no power save modes are indicated, and I think that's a rather
bizarre result.
The card is a broadcom card in a new Dell D620 - so I think it's Dell's 1490
card as well.
Does anyone know if Vista "throttles" wireless to save...

SMTP access problem by
Max Spiller
I am having a lot of trouble sending email (Vista Mail) through an SMTP
server - I continue to get an 0x800CCC OE error. It uses port 25 and I can't
telnet to this server - I get a "connect failed" error.
Am running Vista barebones, only the operating system is in the start-up
list. Have tuned MTU to a point where packets don't fragment.
Presumably port 25 is being blocked, but how do I...
