Static IP Addresses in FIOS by
blegs38552[_3_]
I am a FIOS subscriber who conects to the internet via an Actiontec
router. I want to assign static IP addresses to my laptop, and my kid's
laptops. In the router, I have the ability to identify the IP address as
"Static Leased". Also, I know that I can assigned a static IP address
through VISTA. Is it necessary to do both? If not, is one preferable
over the other? I don't want overkill, but want...

Can't get Vista, XP and Router to work by
[email protected]
I've read some of the other posts but don't know which apply to me.
Here are my specifics:
3 PC's (Windows XP Home, Windows XP Pro and Vista Home Premium
The two XP's work flawlwssly with simple file sharing and printer
sharing - the Vista has a problem. All I care about having work, for
now, is simple file sharing with no user restrictions and printer
sharing.
All Workgroups are the same.

responding. If I try to run RSOP it also stops responding. When I try to shut
down or log off, I get stuck at Logging Off, I have left it for hours. I
eventually have to power off the machine to get it back up.
I have the following errors in the event logs

Windows Wireless Service Not Running by

I have been unable to connect via wireless recently because my computer will
not locate any networks. I let Windows diagnose the problem and get a
message stating that "the Windows Wireless Service is not running on this

then given a message that Windows cannot resolve the problem. This is a new
problem, I have used...

Vista PC cannot ping XP machine by
MikeG[_6_]
Hi,
I managed to get my PC to communicate but only one way. I have
connected via an ethernet cat5 cable. I am also running McAfee on both
PCs. I can get the XP to talk to the Vista machine but not the other
way round. I managed to copy files from the XP to Vista with no real
hitches. However, when in vista and trying to open up the shared view of
the XP PC I get unable to communicate. Error...

Does Vista Firewall support more than 1 active network at a time? by
looplocal
Does Vista Firewall support 2 ACTIVE network connections? It seems that the
firewall is designed to only support one active NIC at a time. I pose this
question as I have 2 disjointed NICS and cannot get Firewall to behave
correctly.
Network 1) accesses the LAN and the internet thru a gateway.
Network 2) accesses a private WAN thru a layer 5 switch
For Vista Firewall:
Network #1 has been...

[email protected]
Hi all,
is there any way to exclude a specific host from the DNS cache on a Vista
machine?
Ie: all DNS lookups should be cached BUT the specific host
www.microsoft.com, which should always be resolved from the DNS server. (this
is an example)
Please advice!

If you log out and back in, or reboot everything is there again...for

Windows Vista Sync Center - "Access Denied" by
CSherman
I have enabled offline files from Vista on my laptop to a network share.
While it works for most of the files (there may be 20 marked for offline use)
it gets stuck with an "Access Denied" on the same 2-3 files each time. Two
fustrating things then happen: 1) the files are not synced and I know that
they are not currently open by other users; 2) a number of TMP files start to
collect with...

Loosing Internet Connectivity by

Vista Home Premium keeps dropping my internet connection. It happens every
day and it happens two or three times a day. Before I bought Vista I was
running XP SP2 on this machine and I never had problems with it. I have two
other computers on my network. One runs XP and the other is a Mac. Neither of
them have internet connectivity issues - only my Vista machine, and only
since I started...
