Remote Desktop problems - one laptop works the other doesn't by
Jason[_20_]
This is strange. I have two nearly identical HP laptops.
Both are the same model, but one (that gives trouble) has
some additional hardware (video) features. Both are running
Vista Home Premium 64 and have all the updates applied. I am
trying to open a RD session on an XP Home Pro machine.
One of the HP's works without a hitch. The other one gives
up with a "Cannot Connect" message (but,...

Help with Remote Assistance by
Blue Max
We seriously need help making a Remote Assistance connection. We have some
senior family members who really need our constant assistance, but we cannot
connect. Here is a little background:
FIRST, the connection is being made over the internet, with an invitation
and password, not within a local network.
SECOND, we can successfully make a Remote Desktop connection to each of the
computers...

Lost Network Connection by
Wolf Pack
I am working on a friend's Dell Optiplex 330 running Vista SP2. The Broadcom Gigabit Controller is showing enabled and functional in Device Manager but does not show in Network Connections. IPCONFIG /all shows the hardware connection with specific DNS entries. How do I get the connection to show in Network Connections so I can change the configuration to automatically assign IP/DNS?

networkshare foreign folder shows as "my documents" ???? by
Schellhaas
Hello,
i have kind of a weird behaviour here, seems connected to windows 7, maybe
vista too:
we have a EMC Celerra fileserver for our Homes (shouldnt make a difference) :
all userhomes are on one share, users may only write to their homes, and are
not allowed to view the contents of the share, only their own subfolder.
now a user put his "my documents" directly into his home.
I, and a...

I already have connected 1 dell laptop to the same domain previously. I am

Can Connect to Router but unable to connect to internet by
Dave
I have recently upgraded to Vista home premium. After many unsuccessful
attempts at trying to connect to my USB adapter(Belkin N1) I updated the
drivers for my USB adapter for the vista OS. After applying the update and
configuring the adapter to the security I had enabl on the router (WPA-PSK),
I finally made a wireless connection to my router (Belkin N1 router). At

How to allow server access but restrict internet access? by
ChrisOfTheOT
Our Vista laptops (& my Xbox) access our basic Windows Home Server system
through a Netgear router. It's all fine, but I want to (easily & quickly!)
restrict & control when some laptops can access the internet while allowing
free access to the server. (For instance, so children's internet access can
be monitored but they can always get to photos & backups, etc. on the
server.)
What might be...

Advisability of ISP Proposed DNS Server Numbers Changes on Windows by
Tom461
I could not find a Windows 7 discussion group, which seems to mean that Win 7
users go to Vista groups. My ISP, Earthlink delivered by Comcast cable, says
the only way I can get out of their very much unwanted Earthlink Search
Assistant is to change the DNS numbers to, apparently. two preset numbers
selected by a radio button in my Windows programs. My question is whether
choosing this...

Vista - Windows 7 networking oddity by
Questor[_2_]
Just this evening my Win7 machine refuses to "see" my Vista machines in
the 'Network' dialog. My Vista machine can access all the shared items
on the Win7 machine just fine.
Previously (before this evening) I was able to open "Network" on the W7
machine and see every one of my computers. Now, all it does is flash
the 'green bar' across the top and give me nothing but shared folders on
my...
