BSOD on shutdown, only if 1G ram by
ABC
Compaq 8510p with Vista business. Recenly it shows a BSOD on
shutdown. The Mem dump says "no more system PTEs" caused by
ntkrnlpa.exe. This also happens in safe mode.
I changed the Registry value of SystemPages to maximum. Still no Good.
If I reduce the RAM to only 1G, it shuts down OK
The laptop has 2 slots. This is what happens:
1G no BSOD

How can I speed up my computer by
Me
many web pages are taking 5 to 10 seconds, some even longer, to load.
Programs don't open quickly, either. I have a DSL connection. The OS is
Windows Vista, 6.0.6002 SP 2. per the System info available under
Accessories - System Tools - System Information
The only program open when I wrote this was Notepad. I opened Firefox,
version 7.0.1,, copied and pasted this in here. ESET NOD 32 is...

Slow Vista. by
barrowhill[_2_]
Have friends desktop PC to cleanup whilst he's away on holiday. Job done
with much improvement in performance. However I've noticed one thing that
bugs me a bit which I haven't been able to resolve.
Startup time to Account Screen is 30 seconds. From password entry to
visible desktop and icons is approx 10 seconds but, and this is what is
bugging me, it takes a further 95 seconds before...

Absurd alledged disk writes when running backup by
Lieutenant Scott
I wanted to see how fast I was backing up to my USB portable drive using EaseUs backup, so I looked in the task manager, see:
http://www.hucker.plus.com/temp/backup.jpg
It appears to have written 2.6TB in a few minutes. I know it hasn't, it's only a 500GB drive. It claims to be writing about 10GB per second which would finish the backup in 50 seconds, but it takes a few hours.
Any ideas...

Vista won't shutdown by
Otis
I have windows vista home premium edition. Recently, and I am guessing after
an update that was automatically downloaded, I can no longer shutdown without
manually shutting it down. When I click the icon to shutdown it goes to the
screen that says windows is shutting down but never does, even after several
hours. I haven't added any drivers or peripherals. Any ideas?

Workarounds for viewing FF on an extra large monitor by
Mint
My son-in-law is a gamer and he is using Vista with a large monitor.
I can't view an open FF window properly without sitting back about 10
feet. :-)
Is there a way to get a full size open window to be a proportion of
the screen size?
I hope that made sense.

computer freeze by
justenuff
So, my computer w/ Vista (came loaded) has froze up 13 times in the past
three days that I have had it. I'm not using it for games, just several,
regular applications. When it freezes, I can't ctrl+alt+del to get the
taskbar. The mouse also freezes, so I can't get to the taskbar to activate
task manager either. I think I ran across something that concerns a Windows
auto repair problems...

Scheduled tasks delayed in W2008 SP2 by
Verky
Hi,
I have some scheduled tasks in my W2008 server SP2. Last day, two of
them started half hour late. I don't find any log that tells me why
windows didn't start these tasks at the right time.
I've found this bug in Windows 2008 SP2 Task Scheduler (http://
support.microsoft.com/kb/982341/en-us?fr=1) but I don't have any
delayed task checked.

regedit by
dido22
hello,
I am in serious danger of having to make a minor change to the registry, and
am a bit nervous. I know that there is 'regedit' and I know how to start it.
I will read some on-line articles 1st.
Are there any 3rd-party progs which might be safer / easier to use ?
Thanks

Vista Defragmenter and ReadyBoost drive by
Derek
Hi,
I noticed something funny on my laptop last night.
I have a 2GB SD card which I use for Vista Readboost.
My laptop is scheduled to perform the Vista Defragmenter at 22:00 each
Sunday. At exactly that time, the light for the SD card started flashing a
whole bunch.
To me, this appears like the defragmenter had kicked-in and was trying to

Disabling write caching for eSATA drives? by
Russell
I'm using eSATA drives store images (I'm a photographer) and swap drives
according to client. I'm running Vista64 with lots of RAM. Problem is that the
file transfer progress bar will show that data transfer is complete when in
reality it's still being transferred from the cache to the target drive. If I
remove the drive I risk interrupting the transfer and get corrupted files.
I currently...
