MS-DOS program starts only in full screen mode from command line by
Juergen Gau
I noticed problems with window mode/full screen mode when running DOS
programs from the Vista command line "cmd.exe".
Let us take as example an MS-DOS program which you will find e.g. at INTEL.
It is the CPU command line identification tool CPUID.EXE. This program shows
up fine in window or full screen mode when started from the "cmd.exe"-window
until Windows 2000. When started under Windows...

Why am I forced into darkness? by
azz0r_wugg
Why bother developing glass and working on letting the user customize the
colors and transparency when your just going to yank it away when a screens
maximized?
Which it alot of the time. I cant even believe there is no option to disable
this happening. Sure you could argue it looks more confusing seeing things
blurred in the bg, I think not, Id like an option.
With my transparency, set how...

No admin account in pre-RC1 5536 by
Mike Hall
Why is the Admin account blocked. Having screwed up video drivers, I tried to
roll back (grayed out), and then boot to safe mode only to find that the
admin account was disabled

Aol Instant MEssenger by

AOL Triton doesn't work, and neither does the standard version. I have had
success with AIM Pro, however. It seems to take up minimal RAM.

I don't know if this is just me, or if it's everyone, but I cant install any

Aol Instant MEssenger by
Xanik
Grant,
After doing a fresh install of Pre-RC1, I went to AIM's website, and
downloaded the version before Triton, and so far, no issues. (I'll be testing
out Triton tonight.) I haven't had to 'uninstall' anything yet, but you might
want to try wiping anything "AOL/AIM-Related" on your computer before you try
again. :)

NO Rating by
reefdweller
Intel D915GMH mobo, 1GB DDR400, 80GB SATA, nothing special.
Performance Rating will not complete -
"Cannot complete assessment"
"The assessment or other operation did not complete successfully. This is
due to an error being reported from the operating system, driver, or other
component."
News to me - noting in Event Logs, and a System Health Check gives all green
lights except that a rating...

x86 vs x64 performance by
Roberto Baggio
I have:
Asus A8N-SLI
Athlon x2 x64 3800+
2GB RAM
NVidia GeForce 6600GT
300GB SATA drive
The performance of x86 RC1 is fine. I'd rate it close to WinXP performance.
Today I installed the RC1 of x64, and overall it seems "snappier" than the

Performance and Information Tools raw scores by
Roof Fiddler
Where can I find the raw numbers (calculations per second, memory operations
per second, etc) which Vista uses as the basis for calculating its Windows
Experience Index subscores for the processor, memory, graphics, gaming
graphics, and primary hard disk?
And how exactly does Vista compute those raw numbers?
