Re-set Vista screen resolution on wake up by
kmb
Every time my Dell 1420 wakes up I need to reset the screen resolution from
low to high. I click apply and say yes when asked if I want to keep the new
settings. Why won't the resolution stick?

Edit items in "Right Click / New" by
v_2dfitt
Where in the registry is the section on what is displayed when you right
click and choose NEW? I've got a ton of items in there that I don't want
and it takes forever to open up.
I've gone to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers (seems
that's the place to go) but it's empty and doesn't show all the items in
the list.
I searched here but couldn't find what I was looking for.
Thanks...

Highlighting or selecting color by
Herb Cober
I have a problem with Vista, when I select a file or icon, the surrounding
light blue line is almost imperceptible, is there a way to darken and make
it more visible?
Thanks in advance of any replies.

Page loading problems by
my_realtor
We have evacuated so I'm not in my own area with my own provider. I am on a
military base in Bossier City. LA on Barksdale AFB in their family
campground, which does have Wi-Fi, or as they have on their paper work YiFi.
Their provider I'm using for my connection is QOLNET. I've been having major
problems connecting and sometimes are unable to connect at all. It has taken
me over 2 hours to...

out of memory error by
Andy Fish
Hi
I have a laptop with 2gb RAM running vista and I currently have the page
file disabled (that's another story). I have just had a message saying
windows is running low on memory and I need to close some applications (even
though i'm hardly running anything)
when I look at task manager, I can see about 300mb used by running
applications, but 1200mb is used for the cache

Multiple Vista Issues by

Howdy.
Ok, to start off with the problem that finally triggered me
to write and ask about it is sort of unexplainable, but I'll do my
best.
I turned my PC on yesterday, and all these problems occured.

Outlook Not closing SOLVED by
Frenchy
Well, if you long and hard enough you find a solution. Many people have
been tracking why Outlook doesn't close after you apparently close it,
yet if you open Task Manager, you see Outlook.exe still in the running
processes.
Turns out, if you have Skype running in the tray, then there is a
default View in the Skype Menu that has "Show Outlook Contacts" and this
keeps Outlook open as a Task...

Windows Performance Index RAM scores by
admuh
Hi, I'm just wondering how the 2x 1GB 5-5-5-18 2T DDR2-4200(Scores 5.9) in my
mums computer scores more than my 4x1GB 4-3-3-10 1T DDR2-6400(Scores 5.4).
The timings have made no difference to the score when I have changed them and
I can play modern games perfectly. Could it be due to my processor(Core 2 Duo
Quad) or my motherboard(Fatal1ty IN-9 SLI)? An overall rating of 5.4 for my
computer...

Vista loads but nothing works by
merlindog
I use Vista Home Premium SP1. Vista seems to load (log in to user account)
followed by desktop being populated. All taskbars in place. But nothing
works - left/right click or keyboard. Message (after a gray screen) -
Windows not responding, end process/cancel. End process results in all
desktop items and taskbars disappearing. Switching computer off and
rebooting works sometimes, but often a...

How can I identify a possible memory leak? by
Chris
I'm finding that after using my PC (running Vista Ultimate SP1) for a few
days, I'm unable to launch certain larger programs; i.e., Excel 2007, Word
2007, etc.
When I attempt to launch Excel, I get an 'EXCEL.EXE is not a valid Win32
application' error.
When I attempt to launch Word, nothing appears to happen. Task Manager
reveals that WINWORD.EXE loads and then immediately unloads.

SPAMFighter on Vista x64 by
Brian C[_2_]
I've been using the SPAMFighter program with Outlook Express on my XP
machine for several months and have found it to be excellent. I decided to
purchase a second license for use with my Vista x64 machine and stupidly did
not notice that the program isn't supported for a 64-bit OS.
I've apparently wasted $25 on a program I can't use, but before I call it a
complete loss I was wondering if...

All I want to do is to restore thumbnails for pdf files with adobe reader 9

after installing - uninstalling and fiddling with reader 9, I have come to
the conclusion that
the problem arises from some administrative privileges on the registry.

AOL on Vista by
Unhappy with Vista
The only AOL I could download was the Desktop version and I really do not
like it.
Why can't Microsoft or AOL help directly when I just purchased a new computer?
On AOL, I cannot access stationery, or other enhancements to my email that I
had no problem with on 9.1.
Does anyone else have that problem? Did you resolve it?

Lost miniatures / thumbnails, wallpaper, and fancy dossiers by
old_nick
The origin of the issue may be a recent installation of Dreamweaver - I
have read that this can perturb fila associations ...
I have lost my wallpaper - neither images shipped with vista, nor my
own show on the screen and the only options windows wants to give are
flat colours (a bit monotonous)
I have lost thumbnails - mainly in Windows Explorer and I don't get an
option in viewing parameters...

I know this has been asked before, but I can't remember what was
recommended. What files can I delete to regain back some of the space on my
