Every time my Dell 1420 wakes up I need to reset the screen resolution from low to high. I click apply and say yes when asked if I want to keep the new settings. Why won't the resolution stick?

Where in the registry is the section on what is displayed when you right click and choose NEW? I've got a ton of items in there that I don't want and it takes forever to open up. I'm finding that after using my PC (running Vista Ultimate SP1) for a few days, I'm unable to launch certain larger programs; i.e., Excel 2007, Word 2007, etc. When I attempt to launch Excel, I get an 'EXCEL.EXE is not a valid Win32 application' error. The only AOL I could download was the Desktop version and I really do not like it. Why can't Microsoft or AOL help directly when I just purchased a new computer?
