Vista Update stuck on 1 update by
vm-jerry
Vista SP1 / 64 bit - is constantly showing 1 pending update. On shutdown it
says installing update 1 of 1. This never goes away - each subsequent
shutdown says the say thing.
Where can I look to see what update is stuck and how to clear it.
Thanks

Hibernate and Restart problem by
Ristar
Whenever I try to hibernate, the laptop would take a while... which it's
fine, 'cos it isn't exactly top of the line, since its for college use only.
However, instead of hibernating (eventually), it restarts.
What's the problem and is there a solution to this?
In addition, whenever there's an orphan/zombie process running, the computer

System restore trashes drive. by
Lester Stiefel
Microsoft blew it on the allocation of disk space for
system restore. The restore function seems to throw the data
all over the drive, causing the defragger to be unable to
adequately defrag the system files.

Help restoring backup to new partition by
billtvt
Vista crashed on me the other day, and I used the recovery option to try
to fix the errors. Instead, a new partition was created somehow. My C
drive is now the smaller drive and E has been designated for program
installations.
I had made a backup just a week ago, but when I try to restore/install
that backup I get a message that the file location is not valid. I
presume that because it was all...

just recently, my ibm lenovo 3000 became slugginsh.

ran in diagnostic mode which has fewer servies running than the safe

Heavy drive activity followed by application not responding. by
md
Wondering if anyone can offer some troubleshooting tips.
Periodically, a Windows Home Premium PC will engage in heavy drive
activity, usually accessing the page file, thumbcache, searchindexer
or a windows media 360 file ( forget the file name). When this drive
activity occurs and an application is closed (usually IE, Windows
Explorer), the application will hang briefly and often times...

Power Schemes Not Working by
Steve Turner[_2_]
Actually, the power schemes functionality in Vista Home Premium SP1 are
sporadic at best. Sometimes I can invoke the recommended settings and
they'll take but sometimes they don't and when I think my computer has gone
into a power saving mode, I come back to it and find it's still up and
running. WITHOUT any applications open! Why is this? And how do I remedy it?
Thanks.

System health time out by
martins77
Hi
I get a time out error whenever I try to generate a system health
report. I see that others have had this problem, but there is no answer
to it.
I tried to set the "Performance logs & Alerts" to manual as suggested
in the tutorial 'System Health Report'
(http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/82728-system-health-report.html) but
it did not help.

Windows Activation by

OK, I'm quite irritated with Vista asking me to activate so many times, i
didn't even do any hardware changes. (I'm using the laptop for Vista)
Whats going on?
If Vista has a maximum number of licenses (activations) isn't Microsoft's
broken software kinda like... cheating me of the licenses?!

Run Program on Critical Battery Level by
Megabyte
I found a post asking a similar question to this, but the answer does not
really help me, so I'll ask again.
I'm looking to find out how to run a program (or script/batch file
preferably) that will autorun when the battery reaches critical level.
The reason I ask is that I have my PC and a Western Digital MyBook World
Edition network drive connected to my UPS. For those who don't know, it...

The icons on my Favorites List are scrambled - some are correct but many
have been switched. Is there a way to correct them? FavOrg used to do it
with XP but I can't find something like this for Vista. Thanks.
