Extremely slow zip file extraction by William
I am using vista without sp1. It takes about 6 minutes to extract a 900kb file. This is consistant with any zip file I try to extract. Another example was a file that was 1.7mb which took almost 30 minutes. I do not use any 3rd party programs currently for dealing with zipped files and this was a clean vista install. I thought maybe there was a coflict with the file being virus scanned...

Few Answers on this site by John@NGC
Why are there so few answers on this site? None for my question and several others! This used to be a good place to get plenty of involvement but now there seems only to be selected interest in getting anything taken care of. Too bad for Microsoft & Vista.

Taskbar/desktop icons appear & disappear by Jordan
I believe I may have a virus on my computer that is interfering with normal functions. My taskbar and desktop icons appear and disappear. A system restore did not work and I removed any suspicious items Webroot Spysweep, but I still can only run things by bringing up the Task Manager. Does anyone know what else I can do to try to fix the problem? Or even know what the problem is?...

Windows Explorer VERY Delayed! by SpikeDelight
Hi, Whenever I try to open any Windows Explorer program like My Computer, Control Panel, Recycle Bin, etc. the window immediately freezes (though nothing else on the PC freezes) and goes into a non-responsive state. If I just do other stuff for about 3-5 minutes the window will eventually open correctly, but this is obviously a problem. Does anyone know what is causing this or how to fix...

accidental ending of processes using task manager by Shelley_treasures
I accidentally ended about the first 4 - 5 processes running on my Sony Vaio laptop. I tried burning a CD and was able to use it for a few minutes but then it went into automatic shut-down. Now I can not restart the computer, I can't even restart it in safe mode. Is there anyway to restore the processes that I ended without having to re-install the operating system?

Is there a way to disable TrustedInstaller? by Brian Kitt
I've seen posts for months about what a piece of crap TrustedInstaller is. It constantly goes out, buries the CPU, and otherwise makes Vista totally useless. Of my list of 100 annoyances about Vista, this has to be the #1. Is there any way to shut this off? I'm not one of those NOOBS incapable of doing my own updates, why does MS deem fit to kill my machine and check for updates so...

Stop Power Options from changing by tdcockers
Recently, I suspect since installing SP1 onto my Vista laptop, the advanced power options specified under the 'custom' profile keep reverting back to their original state. Specifically, when I tell it to stop asking for a password on resume, it will stop asking... for a few days, and then it reverts. I have not noticed any particular events that might be causing this. Has anyone else had...

Vista SP1 Memory Leak? by Stevo
Hello, I've been running Vista on a few PC's since release and haven't had any real problems until SP1. The issue I'm running into now is all of the PC's I've updated have a slow memory leak since upgrading to SP1. After about 2-3 days of use, explorer.exe is up to 400-500MB Commit & Working Set. This is up from 29M/49M a few hours into use after a fresh boot. Also, there is a svchost...

Using Run Command: chkdsk c: /f/r by AlexisR
On my "XP pc" I have used this utility quite often; but when I tried to run this on my "Vista pc" the black box (with the DOS prompt) appears for a moment then disappears) I read some post(s) regarding "elavated priviledges" and that instruct user to "right-click Command and choose to 'Run as Administrator'." In this regard, I haven't been able to get to the option to "Run as Admin." ...

Backing up individual folders and EXE files? by Alert101
I'm using Backup & Restore in Vista Home Premium x64 for easy backups. There are however a couple issues with it. First, is it possible to make Vista backup only individual folders? Second, I have Backup & Restore set to making daily incremental backups of all files (that can be selected in the wizard) on my C drive. Thing is, I have folders with applications in the root of C. E.g. C:\Prog1,...

Vista Partition - Big problem. by MaliceEssence
Ok, so I had a hard disk (system) running Vista Business x64... It was divided into 2 partitions. - One 20GB System partition, and one 230GB EMPTY partition. - That's how it was set up when i was given the pc. The 20GB partition was about to burst with just the OS and a few apps, so i decided it needed expanding. Deleted the 230GB, and expanded the 20GB up. Have done nothing to it since.

Create new partition of existing C: drive Vista by skibuz
I am attempting to create a new partition to store pictures. I have created the unallocated space (reducing the space on my C: drive). When I complete the drive wizard to assign the drive letter to the partition, I get the following error: You cannot create a new volume in this unallocated space because the disk already contains the maximum number of partitions. Fairly new Dell Inspiron...

Windows Installer Errors by Blake
I recently attempted to install a new game onto my computer, and was having major difficulties in the installation process. The file would unpack and install normally until the very end when when a Windows Installer box would come up saying "Preparing to Install". This would continue for about 45 minutes or so until finally an error message came up saying that the Installation Server was not...
