My system has developed a problem restarting. Whether I use the start button restart or my desktop shortcut, it goes through the restart fine up to the shutdown screen. Then it shutsdown but won't reboot. It just hangs with the monitor off and the system running. I can't seem to figure it out. Google search comes up with similar but not the exact problem. I got a new laptop the end of last year with Vista Home Premium, and got a virus, well a few viruses... I downloaded AVG anti-virus software, and got rid of them, but since then whenever I turn the laptop on, I get two error pop-ups saying ERROR LOADING C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\OOKOCXIO.DLL and ERROR LOADING C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AELRDVUJ.DLL

Pc running Vista ultimate. On boot up "Preparing your desktop" appears on screen. After a few seconds i'm left with a blank screen except for the cursor. Ctrl-alt-delete brings up usual screen with various choices. Any ideas?

After my spyware doctor scanned my computer and fixed an Adware situation i received an error. "The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect. (0x8007007B) Is there a way of fixing this and how did this happen? Any suggestions and comments will be very appreciated.

I have Vista Home Premium....I get the error that says the task manager has been disabled by the administator.....I'm it and I didn't disable it...I've tried going into the regedit etc. and changing the value to "0", but that did not work.....????? How do I enable it?

Sometimes there are loud clicking noises and the computer is generally loud when it starts up or whilst it's on. The computer will crash on occasions and won't start back up. I am thinking it is a problem with the hard disk as when it doesn't switch on, it is as if the computer cannot locate it. It is persistently crashing and not starting up and the noises are constant. What should I do?

Went too far too fast tweaking the startup programs via program explorer. I think blocked then deleted from startup the program or service that allows one to view thumbnails of images in the file browser (explorer). Hi Using Vista Ulimate 32 bit, SP1. I have tried setting up a cleanmgr sageset:10 and then checking all the boxes except for thumbnails. If I run cleanmgr sagerun:10 from an administrator account it does not empty the waste basket for the general user accounts on the PC.

My computer will not stay in Sleep mode. After only a few seconds it comes back on.
