Many of the shortcuts that I have throughout my system (Windows Vista on a Dell Studio 1537) have suddenly started to point to Windows Media Player. If I try to open software programs through a shortcut, most open Windows Media Player. Has anyone else had this problem? It started this morning. I'm having to go into the program folder and open individual programs directly at the application.

The computer boots up fine but when you click on a user (either an administrator or limited user) you get to the welcome screen and then nothing happens. lately when I try to open a file in windows mail movie, picture, PowerPoint or any attachment. I get a message there is no association for this and to make one. I have found the solution to this problem: Boot up in safe mode 9keep tapping F8 when the pc's just booting up) then, navigate to windows/system32 then delete a file called cpqikey.cpl This should fix your problem. Though, I've read that there may be other offending .cpl files in the system32 folder. Start with this one
