Screen Freezes when holding down a key by jsph27
I just made a new PC with a buddy of mine, obviously with Vista Home Edition on it. The problem is that when I hold any key down the screen freezes, sometimes after 2 seconds and sometimes after 10 seconds and anywhere in between, but only for as long as I hold the key down. If I move the mouse during this it will reappear where it should, so its like only the screen stops. Also, if I hold...

Choosing which programs to remove from startup? by Itinerantscholar
I bought a Dell Inspiron 1501 with Vista on it. It has the typical performance problems that have been noted for laptops running Vista. It receives a "Windows Experience Index" of 2.0. The first thing you are told to do to improve performance is eliminate programs from startup. But when I go through the long list of programs, I often can't tell what they do. For instance, I see in this...

defrag by Ralph[_5_]
Hi, Just looking for some information, actually. I have no complaints about Vista. It's working better than any other OS I've seen in early stages. My question is about the defragmentation program. When it's set up on a schedule, does the program do an analysis first, or just run the defrag?

My girlfriend recently bought a dell inspiron 1520 laptop and it worked great for the first couple weeks. However, Monday when she started the computer up it gave her the error message "GoogleDesktop.exe - Bad Image - C:\windows\system32\wshtcpip.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or contains an error. Try installing..." Once closed, the same message came up but for SiteAdv.exe...

Vista system file corruption and sfc problem by mitvah
I’ve a Vista Ultimate installed on a DELL Latitude D620 laptop. The problem started a few weeks ago when Symantec Antivirus reported catching Clone War (1) on my computer. I’ve since done a few clean scans using various scanning programs but some system files seems to have been lost or are corrupted. I tried running sfc /scannow under admin cmd window and also after starting the...

SP1: no more internet connection via wireless after install by Co2FreeTransport
After I had installed SP1, my internet connection was vanished. The connection to my wireless was reported limited. When I clicked to verify the connection to my wireless, a problem with the wireless network connection was diagnosed. I was advised to check for internet protocol and driver installment. Hardware management (Dutch:"apparaatbeheer") reported "working correct" for the Atheros...

Suddenly Slow by BK[_2_]
I use Windows XP and am trying to help my neighbor who is using Vista. He system has "suddenly" (don't you hate that??) started running so slowly that it is even difficult for me to try to analyze what's going on. I was able to check her startup folder and verify that there isn't anything unusual in there trying to open. Tried to bring up task manager but after 8 minutes of watching the...

Updates apparently died during install... by IWantXPBack
So... I was in the middle of a work project that has to be done in 40 minutes, and my Vista Business machine was getting wonky, as Vista does when you run it for more than 12 hours. I decided to reboot. During the shut-down, I get the dreaded "Please do not power off or unplug your machine. Installing update X of 5." That was 30 minutes ago.

Even after successful System Restore, WindowsXP startup-safemode o by BonMot
Windows will not start normally though I've successfully restored the system. After completing two effective System Restores and countless reboots, Safe Mode is still the only way Windows will start. No new updates, installations, etc. have been added to my computer for about a month, nor has the internet been connected the last five + times that the computer has been used. My last...

Internet Explorer "not responding" sometimes by rwphilips@yahoo.com
When I click on the IE icon in the Quick Launch toolbar IE opens most of the time. About 10% of the time, the program starts but I get a blank IE screen and it says "not responding" at the top. I can terminate it vis Task Manager or click the X to close it and it will give me the option to close, report the error (which does nothing) and close and restart. Does anyone else have this problem and...
