Scrambled Display Vista nVidia by
David P. Greer
I am having a problem with a scrambled display in Vista. Here's what's
happening:
If the computer has been idle long enough for the display to go into
standby mode, once it is reawakened, everything seems normal. That is,
until you do something that requires UAC, or a 3D game. When the UAC
screen dimms, the screen becomes totally scrambled. The same if you
start a 3D game like Doom. ...

Upgrade to the latest retail version of Windows Vista by
Babinaba
I get this message in the Problem Reports and Solutions window:-
The problem was caused by Windows Vista, which was created by Microsoft
Corporation. You are running a beta version of Windows Vista, which is no
longer supported by Microsoft Corporation.
I've clicked on the website to upgrade which is what it tells me to do but
it just takes me to a page to buy an upgrade - is this right?

Laptop noise by
Saulo
Since I intalled Windows Vista Business 64-Bits in my Acer Aspire 5630-6091 I
can hear a strange noise (I think from processor). The laptop config is an
Intel Core-2-Duo with 1Gb RAM.
With Windows XP I didn't have this problem. This is my second laptop with
this problem and with the same behavior: only in normal use of Windows.
The most stange is when I start Windows Vista in secure mode: the...

Windows backup by
Harmon Koeltz
Hello
I use Windows Backup weekly to back up music, pictures, video,
documents, email, etc. It runs automaticaly and I pretty much ignore it.
However, I just noticed that the total used space on my external drive is 56
gig and the used space on my C deive is only about 45 gig. Is that normal? I
thought that Windows Backup for Vista only added new or changed files to the
backups. It seems...

Random Vista lockups by
Mike[_22_]
Good day.
I have an HP dv9000 laptop running Vista premium SP1. Both before and after
installation of the service pack I have been getting occasional complete
lockups, with the mouse, and keyboard both inactive and the disk access
light off. The only way out is the power button.
The system is about six months old, has no malware on it, has the latest
BIOS installed and passes memtest. I...

instant search box by
Margaret G
How do I clear the instant search box? In XP I'd just highlight then press
delete. It won't work in Vista, the word just stays there. Neither can I
highlight then right click to select delete. I don't like having a list of
things that I'll only have needed once.
Thanks,
Margaret

damocles[_6_]
Hi Everyone,
I was doing a routine check on things today and I noticed that My
RaptorX 150gb hard drive only has a maximum transfer rate of
9mb/sec...according to vistas Reliability and Performance monitor. This
is the result when saving a large file in Photoshop ( 1.5gb ).
Can this be right?
I haven't installed any drivers for the Raptors as I just let Vista

How do I stop unwanted Windows desktop search windows from popping by
Gramercy
All of a sudden in the last 48 hours I have a problem with unwanted Windows
desktop search windows repeatedly popping up. Almost anything can trigger
them: clicking on a navigation button in Windows Internet Explorer, moving
my mouse, clicking on my desktop, hitting the space bar! I probably get 4 or
5 a minute and I can't figure out how to disable them.
I haven't added anything new to my...

All the new modes like the Sleep Mode and Hibernate Mode by
StepKim
This might sound silly, but I can't seem to find the way to wake my laptop up
after putting it into the Sleep Mode.
I just got a new laptop, Toshiba Satellite A200-12V, and I tried the Sleep
Mode once and I couldn't turn it back on. I pressed the Power button, and the
power sign was on, but the monitor stayed off and the laptop was
unresponsive. I had to turn it off forcefully and restart...

Computer Restarts ALL the time from error....HELP!!! by
Laura[_7_]
Once I log back in, after my computer restarts from an error, I get "Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown." It always happens when I'm away for a little while, so I don't see what happens right before it restarts, but it doesn't matter what programs are open, if any. Please help. I have no idea what to do.
I already did a system restore to before it started happening and changed...

I went into taskbar properties and checked the notifications area and they
are all grayed out except for the clock one. I can't turn them back on. Tis

Page File Management by
Bluehills
‘From Windows Vista Inside and Out’:
Apparently it’s a nice performance tweak to move your Page file form the
hard drive with Windows on it to your other internal drive. Is this just a
cut from c: to paste to d: job? Assuming a normal letter configuration here.
It goes on to say “Using multiple page files split over two or more physical
disks is an even better idea.”
That made me...
