Server2003 network and Vista - too slow performance by Dimitar Dimitrov
Hi, After installation SP2 and .NET2.0 on Server 2003(SP0 originaly), each Network Vista client has slow Network performance (Network File access and RDP connection to that server). Each other Windows client (Win98, WinNT, Win2000 and WinXP) works fine. We use WindowsNT server as Domain Controller. Before installation of SP2 (Server2003 was SP0) everything was fine.

Sorry for the multi-post (previously posted to the vista general group with no answer and I forgot to also cross-post to these maintenance and security groups). Suddenly when I open Task Scheduler I get the following error message: "An error has occurred for task Reminders - XXXXXXXX. Error message: The specified account name is not valid."

Successful with SP1; Finally!!! by Richard
I stood on my head but could not get SP1 to successfully load on my Ultimate version of Vista. Used msconfig to shut down almost everything and still no luck. The error code did not give me much of a clue, except that SP1 did not like a driver. So I updated Creative's audio driver and AMD's video driver to the latest and low and behold, the upgrade worked.

Windows Explorer Crashes by AJ[_2_]
Any time Windows Explorer is called into action it crashes, causing loss of any information in the opening window and causing a full refresh of the desktop. Error reporting suggest downloading KB938979 as a possible repair for this issue. However, when going through the process of downloading the specific KB an error message is presented that the KB is not specific to repairing the...

Cannot turn on XPS Viewer or .NET Framework 3.0 by Carlos
I disabled .NET Framework 3.0 through the "Turn Windows features on and off" utility to debug some old drivers I was trying to install. Now that I have given up on the drivers, I am trying to enable .Net Framework and the XPS Viewer through the utility and I am receiving an error. The only error given is "An error has occured. How to use "change" & "repair" under Features by davidjchuang[_78_]
I am re-posting the question because I have a feeling something is wrong with the original one. My question is : under" Programs and Features", there are several options when a program is selected, i.e. "uninstall", "change", and "repair". I used "uninstall" countless times. What I'd like to know about is the other 2 options, specifically will a common user like me be able to utilize them or they...

explorer.exe closing by T
I realize that my laptop is running slow so I checked the task manager and saw that explorer.exe was taking up all the cpu usage (which I never saw it done before), so I tried to restart it by ending the process and run it again. I then realized that explorer.exe used up all the cpu because the window sidebar was running so I turned that off and explorer.exe didn't use that much of the cpu...

Did a registry cleaner cause a dvd malfunction? by the river man
I've noticed recently that my dvd player will not recognize some discs, including(gulp) my operating system reinstallation disc. I can think of only two things that could have caused this error. One is that I recently played around with new graphics card drivers for a computer game. The other is that a while back I tried a free registry cleaner on my computer to fix errors and improve...

Vista performance by Andreas Y.
I was expecting that Vista's slow performance during startup, logon and resume from suspend would be improved after SP1. After all I noticed that there is no difference at all even after SP1. Even with the latest processor, 2 GB ram, on the highest end HP laptop, vista takes 3 times longer than XP with an older computer, slower processor and less ram. Are there any expectations for the...
