System Requirements Lab Vista tool by gregrocker[_2_]
I found a great download from System Requirements Lab that is my upgrade guide now for my eMachines T5234 with Vista Premium. It rates all of your hardware and drivers for how they will perform on Vista, with cool tabs for Minimum, Recommended and Optimal requirements. I learned after a ram upgrade that the weak spot is my graphics card, and which ones to consider. I also learned more...

Where did my hibernate go? by gregrocker[_2_]
Hi all. After an OS reinstall, Hibernate and Hybrid Sleep showed up for the first time on my new Vista eMachine pc. I set Power Options to Sleep after 30 minutes, enabled Hybrid Sleep (tho I had no idea what it is, even after reading the definition), and set it to Hibernate after an hour. Later that day I came back to find my computer turned off - it had hibernated successfully, saving my...

Hi Does anyone know if the long awaited SP1 will address the backup problems on Vista business? I have not been able to either backup files or PC as there is error messages to do with shadow copy etc (0x8004231F). I have a new laptop and wondering where to go what to do as I have had no joy from HP as they say it is a conflict. And no answer from MS either. Just been given the run around by all....

I can't get into my system startup programs by columbianna
Can anyone help? About 3 weeks ago, I tried to change some of the startup programs and was denied access. First off, I got tired of Windows Defender never catching any of the spyware or other stuff so I decided to go with AdAware and disable Windows Defender. Now, I can't enable Windows Defender and when I try to get into my Startup programs I get this error message: Windows Defender:...

Windows Complete PC Backup by HMT
This backup program is included with Vista Ultimate only. The backup wizard lists the (C:) drive with OS, (D:) drive (HP's recovery partition) and (F:) drive I created using Vista's Disk Management feature. Both the (C:) and (D:) drives have a check mark which is dimmed. The (F:) drive has an empty box I can check if desired. Why is the (D:) drive checked and dimmed? It seems I should be...

Dialog box will not close by Pete
I have a new computer with Vista Home Premium 32 installed. I have a problem sometimes when a dialog box opens(e.g. User Account Control), when I click Continue/Cancel or try to close the box there is no response, sometimes for upto 1 minute, although I can 'grab' the box and move it. Eventually it will respond but until that point other operations appear frozen (clock not advancing) I have...

Computer hangs while shutting down by Rick
I have two accounts on my PC. In the past, I'd had the frequent experience that if I'm logged on to both accounts and try to shut down without logging off both first, it gets hung. I've found this also if I'm logged onto to one account only as well, but not as frequently as when both are logged on. The work around has been to log off first, then shut down. Today, however, I was logged on...

Computer won't properly install the 10 Jan 2008 updates. by Mike the Pike
I was shutting my PC down last Thursday and saw that there were updates to install for Vista Home Premium, 32 Bit edition. So I opted to have it install and shutdown when finished and I went to bed. When I got up on Friday it was still on the "Shutting Down" screen. Gave the computer another 2 hours to process, still nothing. So I manually shut it down with the power button. Tried to reboot...

negative unintended consequences from Vista Updates ..recommend co by nweissma
how can i derive the benefit from Vista updates that have negative unintended consequences? The latest Vista update was causing my KEYBOARD to abruptly lose power; after needing to reboot several times, i simply reverted to a past restore point. My Vista has been configured for auto updates for nearly 1 year and i have always had an excellent experience from them. MS Bashers can rampage...

7150m getting low vista experience index. by Samrat
Firstly i will like to say that i know 7150m is a very low-end gaming card and it cant play latest games higher than 640*480@low-mid settings. But then again it should be compared with other igps like 6150m x3100 etc because thats where it is competing. Now i recently got this laptop: Compaq Presario V3611Au and its specs are (after updating few things) 1.8ghz amdx2 processor 2gb...
