I have a problem with few applications, which used to work fine on my previous Windows XP Home Edition. Now, on my new Windows Vista Home Edition, whenever I try running these application I get a popup saying "you need to update your DirectX to version 8.1 or higher". I checked on the DirectX I have, and it turned out to be version 10! How can I run the applications again??

I use a Vista Business OS installed but am unable to see thumbnail preview in my taskbar. I have an Xbox 360 set up as a media center extender for my Vista computer. While watching TV, movies, videos etc the screen goes black while the sound continues. To reactivate I only need to push a button on the remote. But this is annoying. I have already disabled the screen saver on the system blade in the dash board. I've been using Vista Ultimate now since the launch on one of my high end PC's. If I switch over to the XP PC, which is a hp 3.2GHz P4, you realize how slow Vista actually is.
