Fake anti-virus infection by Questor[_2_]
My granddaughter, running her laptop on Vista Home Premium SP2, with all the updates managed to get infested with a fake A/V scanner. The "scanner" runs for a bit, then tell you that it has found somewhere between 5 and 15 "infestations" and tells you that you have to pay to get rid of them. Every 5 seconds a pop-up appears telling her that 'whatever'.exe is infected and cannot run. All...

old mail by Bill Walsh
In the folder "indexed file locations" there are a lot of old emails I thought were deleted from my system. When I try to delete one of them, there is no option for delete in the menu. How can I get rid of the old emails as none of them have any importance to me? Thanks..BW

How to identify disk IO intensive process? by james
I was playing a simple board game backgammon (no disk IO, no net traffic) while my hard drive suddenly start to have a flurry of activity like a virus scanner is running or something. During this time, the system is sluggish. When I ctrl-alt-del nothing happens for half a minute and then an error dialog box something about login ID. The screen stopped refreshing for another few seconds, then...

Browser window resizes by Hans B
Hi, I have Windows Vista Home Premium Edition on my laptop. When I browse, using Internet Explorer, the pane successively becomes smaller. Every time I click, the lower border moves upwards a bit and after a while only a narrow stripe remains. Very annoying! Why does this happen? What can I do to get rid of this annoying behaviour?

Failed Updates by Larry M.
Ok I usually have no problems installing updates. But today for some reason the 4 IMPORTANT Updates fail to install. I do not get a clear error msg. And they do not how as installed so they can't be uninstalled. These all seem to be Office 2007 related. KB975960, 974561, 973704, & 973593. They failed this morning despite rebooting. And then I was prompted again this afternoon. They failed...

Mouse Lazy by Brenda J.
Have Vista Home Premium, Dell computer, Microsoft cordless mouse. I am having problems with my mouse being non-responsive at times. This happens everywhere from the internet to shut down. The mouse just fails to work for several clicks. I had wondered if this could be due to my SLOW dial-up service but then what does that have to do with shutting the computer down? The cordless mouse is...
