Svchost.exe Problem.... by
Bowen
I've got a problem with Vista's Svchost.exe. I don't know why, but is
seems to have started after I installed Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter
2 single player demo. I noticed that after the computer booted and the
boot itself was pretty fast until the desktop comes up and then it slows
down a bit. It acts if I was defragging or something. I can still run
everything, but it's slowed down about...

Failed Updates by
Larry M.
Ok I usually have no problems installing updates. But today for some reason
the 4 IMPORTANT Updates fail to install.
I do not get a clear error msg. And they do not how as installed so they
can't be uninstalled. These all seem to be Office 2007
related. KB975960, 974561, 973704, & 973593. They failed this morning
despite rebooting. And then I was prompted again this afternoon.
They failed...

Cannot delete folders - Vista Home Premium by
XXX[_2_]
My friend has a Vista Home Premium (32bit) Dell desktop with SP2 installed - and
all other updates installed as of this moment in time.
A month or so ago he created 3 sub-folders in his Video folder. These are empty
and have not, as far as I am aware, been used.
When I say they are empty I mean there are no files inside. I have noticed that
there are some sub-folders, which are also empty
I...

Can't install Vista SP2 by
Charles W Davis[_2_]
Club member's computer. Windows Vista Home Premium 32-Bit. When I first
picked it up, no shortcut link to a program would work. I drilled down to
the executible files; winword.exe, excel.exe, iexplore.exe and then double
click. The error message went something like this: "This file does not have
a program associated with it from performing this action. Create an
association in the Set...

Browser window resizes by
Hans B
Hi,
I have Windows Vista Home Premium Edition on my laptop.
When I browse, using Internet Explorer, the pane successively becomes
smaller. Every time I click, the lower border moves upwards a bit and after a
while only a narrow stripe remains. Very annoying!
Why does this happen?
What can I do to get rid of this annoying behaviour?

Need help:Charmap doesn't display user-defined fonts by
Bobby[_8_]
Hi,
I'm having a problem with charmap.exe.
While it is working perfectly on both Windows XP and Windows Vista 32
Bit, it does not include "All fonts (private characters)" on a system
with Windows Vista Ultimate 64 Bit.
I need a user-defined character made with eudcedit.exe on the 64 Bit
system, too.

Offline Maintenance (Environment) by
Cavaldi
Does anyone know if it is possible to do maintenance - including
installation of new software and permorming updates of existing software
- of a Vista installation which is local but Offline, ie, not running at
that moment?
Safe Mode is not an option in the scenario I'm working under.

System idle process by
RuthlessIX
I use my laptop to play an MMoRPG Game and I noticed it runs extremely slower
than a few months back. I also noticed the System Idle Process is running and
using 90% of the cpu. Is there anything I can do to speed up my computer or
to stop the System Idle Process from using up all the CPU?

Vista hibernate sometimes takes about 10 minutes by
D. Hendriks (Dennis)
Usually, hibernation (which is set as my default shutdown option in the Start
Menu), takes less than a minute. Sometimes however, it takes very long. It
can get up to, or even more than, 10 minutes!
I accessed the Event Viewer - Applications and Services logs - Microsoft
- Windows - Diagnostics-Performance - Operational, and filtered for Event
ID 300. There are several 'Error' and...

Clone a laptop drive by
rmo555@cox.net
I want to clone a laptop drive that's larger in capacity than the one
in my laptop. The original has two logical partitions. I have Acronis
True Image 11. Reason: If my laptop drive ever goes south, I should
just be able to pop the cloned drive in and off we go. I need some
detailed guidance on how to do this.
