sleep scheduled by power management fails by
Bubbator
Problem: sleep scheduled by power management fails, but sleep button works.
History: system built March 07 and can sleep but can't resume.
Nvidea driver update addresses this issue, sleep is hunky-dory
for a while.
Random infrequent Nvidea driver crashes require a couple more
updates and hot fixes. Crashes go away, but now "sleep after 30 minutes"
won't work. Sleep...

Quick Launch Bar: Deleting a Shortcut takes ages! by
Philippe - Swiss
Hello,
Indeed, I noticed that whenever I want to delete a Shortcut
on it, the mouse-cursor "ring" starts spinning for...EVER!!
So in order to accomplish successfully such task, I have no
option but to move the mouse-cursor (with its still spinning
ring) onto the desktop (where it converts immediately into an
arrow) and it's ONLY THEN when I do left-click the mouse
that I obtain AT ONCE the...

Automatic Shutdown by
Chris
Unless the others who cannot get Vista to shut down, my machine shuts down
automatically after being idle for just a FEW (less than 5) minutes.
When I restart, I get the screen indicating that the shutdown wasn't "good"
and asking me to chose to boot normally or in safe mode.
After the restart, I can find nothing indicating why it shut down.
Any suggestions or help?

Help with my Vista needed! by
mihiruthere93
Recently, my computer had been acting up, and the graphic card (NVIDIA 7950)
even got messed up because of this. The computer wasn't starting up properly
or anything. This all started after I downloaded an apple conversion
software, Cucusoft iPod Movie/Video Converter. At first, it kept stopped
working and said the program is not responding, and then, after a few weeks,
it said "Rundlll32...

Vista "My Pictures" screensaver still freezing up by
Epictetus
Well, I thought Cal Bear's advice yesterday would clear up the problem, but
it has not (I ensured that no movie files were in the folders being used for
the screensaver). The "my pictures" screensaver is still freezing up
randomly, requiring that I turn off the computer. I have a new Dell Inspiron
531 desktop, running Vista home basic. The system is just a few weeks old,
and I have...

When is rebooting absolutely necessary ? by
steve h.
A very simple question: When is a reboot absolutely necessary ? I hate
rebooting, and it seems that logging off and logging back on my user account
seems to do what I need.
I guess an associated question is, what is the difference between just
logging off and logging back on, and a full reboot ? TIA for your time, truly.

Concerned Dad
I have, or should I say my daughter has an Acer Laptop that I would like to
totally wipe clean all the way back to the factory settings, and i'm willing
to lose all files as well because she has been downloaded all types of
nonsense, and now the computer is loaded with junk from everywhere. Is this
possible?

VISTA, and the desktop settles down, the Vista is beatiung the hard drive for
