USB Drive incompatible with SpeedBoost by CJM
I tried using my 512Mb Kingston DataTraveller USB2.0 flash drive for the Speedboost feature, but the OS responded say something to the effect of 'you drive isn't fast enough/good enough' for this prupose. I'm surprised at this. Is there any indication anywhere of what is required of a usb drive to be suitable for SpeedBoost?

Norton Partition Magic for dual boot? by VicTek
Norton Partition Magic 8.X comes with Boot Magic for switching between OS's. Do you know if this will work for dual booting XP SP2 and Vista, and avoid the problems with system restore files, etc.

Unreliable Microsoft by Spirefm
Yesterday I telephoned Microsoft to activate (for the 1000th time!) MS Office. There was a long long pause then a voice said "I'm sorry, sir, all our systems are down at the moment". I fell about laughing.

Why is Vista 2D Graphics & Text performance so bad compared to XP? by Spirefm
I've run repeated tests of Passmark Performance Test on the same computer with XP64 and Vista64. Most results are reasonably close (+/- 20% say) but 1 thing is wildly different. XP records a mark for 2D graphics of 1281 against Vista's 376 ie it is over 3 times faster. The difference is easy to see while the test s are running too and is totally repeatable. For this reason overall XP records...

WEI Test Fails by kdangler
I have a brand new Dell E520 with 2GB RAM and every time I run the WEI Indexing tool it craps out at the end, so I never get a correct score. I shows my Graphics and Gaming Graphics scores at 1.0, but it is a dual core Intel 2.8GHz CPU with the Intel G965 Express Chip set. Dell said it was Vista ready but the WEI test keeps failing. Any thoughts?? Thanks Kevin

Windows backup greater flexibility by schale01
I just tried windows backup using a networked computer. Backup finished fine however it did not backup any of the files that I desired it to. All of my music, documents and other important data is located on a different partition (formatted in FAT32, could this have been the cause?) and I could see no way to select these items. The option to select certain folders to backup would be useful...

Ultimate very busy after booting up - how can I see whats going on by crisponions
Been trying to figure this out. I am running Vista Ultimate RTM on my laptop and have been trying to figure out why it takes 5 minutes for my wireless to connect to the access point after the computer starts up. I have narrowed it down to something in the startup process, it is still really busy after showing the ctrl-alt-del screen. I can log in and everything looks normal, but the...

Why is Fast User Switching in Vista so slow? by Roof Fiddler
With Linux I can hit ctrl-alt-F7, ctrl-alt-F8, etc to switch X servers (with different users logged in to each X server), and it's instantaneous. But in Vista on the same hardware, when I use FUS, it takes at least 15 seconds even if just two users are logged in and they aren't running any programs, with Vista reporting that only about half of my 1GB of RAM is in use. Why is it so slow?

Problem with Sidebar and Screensaver by Rocks
I wasn't using the Sidebar for a while, and recently started, now that there are some useful Outlook widgets to use. However, when Sidebar is running, when the Photos screensaver kicks in, it drops my (hi-res) screen resolution down to 1024x768 or so. This is really annoying, because then all my windows have been scrunched up to fit. If Sidebar isn't displayed, the Photos screensaver leaves...

Defragmenter Performance issue by warder
Has anyone else noticed that when a Vista defrag is running, that your PC can entirely lock up for a period (on my PC it's about 3 minutes)? I believe that when the defrag program de-fragments the windows page file, or some other key system files, that the GUI basically stalls until the file is unlocked. The DWM continues to run and you can move windows around, but all processes become...

audiodg.exe performance issues by Jacob Rens
I'm having some serious, and confusing, issues with this audiodg.exe program. Recently my motherboard went kaput, so I installed a new one and reinstalled Vista Ultimate. After that, I started noticing audiodg.exe acting up. I had never noticed it consume any resources in my old installation of Vista Ultimate RTM, but now it's using anything from 15% to 25% of my CPU when I'm playing music,...

I cant do anything until my sreen saver comes on, and then I move my mouse to wake the screen saver, and it goes back to normal. Defrag-Attn Victoria(MSFT) by Jeff
Victoria, Hi, Lost your original post for suggestions, so here goes: Spoke with Jill about this before ad nauseum, but, I think your focus group info/data may reflect that-true,many people didn't use the GUI, however, I think the decision to leave in out; was a mistake.
