Deepika Tresa was going thru files and programs to "solve" my problem, 1 and

No sound for battery alarms by
Tomislav
I have Vista HP .. and hear no sounds when battery level reaches either clow
or critical level. What should be the correct registry settings (coz I
believe it's a registry problem)?
Please DON'T TELL ME TO GO TO CONTROL PANEL/SOUNDS. BEEN THERE, DONE THAT,
TESTED THE PARTICULAR SOUNDS, LOOKS AND FEELS OK, but still nothing happens.
Other system sounds work.

Hack Backup to back up specific folder tree? by
John Hupp
I see that the Vista Backup Wizard is remarkably non-configurable. File
types can be selected, but beyond that you can only choose to back up
selected file types on additional partitions, since the active Windows
partition is mandatory.
This is a very blunt instrument which produces much, MUCH larger and broader
data backups than we want. I am rather disgusted with it. For our
purposes,...

Desktop icon font - bold? by
JMM
I can't believe I'm asking this question, as this is very easy to do in XP,
but I can't seem to find out how in Vista (32 bit Ultimate). I would like to
bolden the text for my desktop icons. I know about the font DPI settings,
that's not what I need here; the size of the text is fine. I just want it to
be bold so as to make it "pop". Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Wmiprvse by
PG
Hi
Recently my laptop running Vista Home Premium has been getting really slow
at logging in once I've typed in my password. I've gone into 'Performance
Information and Tools' and then 'Advanced Tools' and it tells me the slow
startup is due to 'wmiprvse.exe' which takes 237.4 seconds to load!
I've run WMIDiag and it has told me that WMI is running correctly.
I don't know what to do to sort...

High HDD Activity after Startup by
Gideon_CC
I recently noticed that my HDD activity is constant for about 2-3 minutes
after I have loaded the computer up. This is just after the startup programs
like AVG and MSN have loaded. After about 2-3 minutes, the HDD activity goes
back down to what it normall is, which is flashing every few seconds.
Do you know what is using the high HDD usage for those 2-3 minutes after
startup? I look at the...

TCP autotuning by
Lord Takyon
I understand Vista "tweaks" it's own connection, but why does it do it so
badly? If I run test downloads allowing Vista to self tune it rarely gets
even close to a tenth of my connection, despite using a download manager to
maximize speeds.
I found out how to turn off auto tuning, and also changed a file to allow
more connections, things are much better now, but I still need to adjust my...

Scan Disk does not run on startup by
Jeff
I’m trying to use Vista’s Backup and Restore Center to backup my files on an
external hard drive (SmartDisk, Firelite). When I select the disks that I
want to backup in the Backup and Restore Center program, an error message
pops up which tells me “The Disk C: has errors.” I click the link to check
the disk for errors, and schedule a Check disk for the next time Windows
starts up. ...

Sluggish Start Menu actions by
beto666
Can anybody tell me why the actions in the Start Menu are so sluggish,
and how to fix it? When I click on Start All Programs and I hover the
mouse on the items there, it takes a while to respond with the
highlight. When the item finally highlights, it takes another bit of
time to expand and show the contents of folders. Is there a fix for
this? Are there any issues which you could point me to...

Low-Level Hum by
Andy/Bandi
To All Cognoscenti, Greetings!
My 4.1 Logitech speaker system emits a low-level hum when connected to my
brand-new Acer Aspire ASE380 with a SoundBlaster card in it running Vista
Ultimate. The problem didn't exist under Windows XP in my older computer,
using the same SoundBlaster card. What could be the cause of this?

WindowsBackup & "sdclt.exe /CHECKFULL"? by
Tim Thein
Running the Task Scheduler as Administrator, and looking under Task
SchedulerTask Scheduler LibraryMicrosoftWindowsWindowsBackup, I see a
task called "CheckFull" and its description stating, "This scheduled task
checks if a full backup should be run."
I'd like to know how it determines when a new full backup should be run.
Could someone provide some documentation on this?
