Vista Full System Restore fails... by
Henry
I'm running Vista Ult. I did a clean install to a new system.
I have 2 300GB SATA's set up in a striped array (600GB). Before Vista
installation, I partitioned the 600 GB into "drives" C: (300GB) and D:
(300GB) . I installed Vista to the C:, and all my
data (docs etc) to D:. I did a full system backup to a third HD in my
system.
I had second thoughts of the striped array (1 drive fails...

Taskbar problems. by
RehKal
I have no idea what causes this to happen but every now and then the taskbar
on my machine messes up. The start menu, quicklaunch bar and any windows I
have open are shifted to the extreme left side. But only the -image- of them
is shifted. If I manage to click in the right place I still open the correct
window, I.E., where the window was located before they got displaced. I
discovered I...

large system cache by
netsavy006
I want to have my windows vista machine to act like that of server 2003. How
do I set the large system cache in vista to do the same thing?
I know in older systems it was:
large system cache = 1
size = 3
Is this the same in vista?

Setting base priority persistently or shortcut by
GregcGen
I'm running Vista Business, core duo 1.8, 1GB RAM on a Dell notebook.
I am often running VMWare, which spawns several other processes. I want them
all to run a HIGH base priority.
Some of the processes are automatically kicked off with High priority now,
but many of them start as "normal."
Is there any way to set up specific programs to run at elevated priority?
Via configuration, registry,...

ReadyBoost/move page file to H.D. by
SevenPointOne
Using xp, I had read a tip to move the paging file to its own hard drive. I
bought a 10 gig drive but never got around to it. I am itchin to try but I
can not find any options with ReadyBoost or moving the page file. Am I
scratchin up a dead end or is something possible my minuscule brain cells
have not thought of.
Thanks in advance, tomorrow is another day to create!

electrofux
Hi,

screensaver starts my harddrive suddenly gets active and only stops if i
return to the desktop.
I have a normally silent system so this harddrive activity is not wanted at
all. I have a core2duo 6600 and 2Gig of Ram and a Samsung SATA Hardrive.
With XP this has never been that way and since i use my PC more as a Media...

Slow Performance, What Could/Should I Do? by
Grorange
When I first got Vista, everything worked perfect. But now, I can't even
watch a streaming video from the internet. I know it's not my internet
because my other Windows XP computer plays the videos just fine. (I also
can't play online games because I get booted all the time.)
Looking at my computers task manager performance tracker, my internet
utilization never goes above 10%. The CPU...

Windows won't allow more windows by
Redhage
After opening several windows in IE 7, after a while a window will open but
will not load. If I close a previous window, sometimes the new window will
work on a second try, but the problem repeats until I can open no windows at
all. I understand there's a memory issue with opening lots of windows, but
after I've closed them all, I often can't even open a Folder Window, or even

peculiar problem by
My News Servers
Vista seems to be always losing my monitor specific settings, and reverting
to generic. Is there something I can do to correct that?
I am using a Samsung syncmaster 753 df crt monitor, if thats any help. And
it won't let me increase refresh rate beyond 60 without giving me an out of
synch black screen at reboot, or sooner.
I have updated the chipset drivers for my motherboard (includes...

I am running Vista Home Prof. on a Vaio. When I boot up everything works but
after I log in and the desktop appears, after about 3 seconds the whole
screen blinks, as in turns black for no more than a second, then comes back
on and finishes loading.
I noticed that it always does this before it finished loading the items in
the taskbar by the clock. And it does NOT do it when I startup in...
