Defragment as task, wake computer from sleep. by
Timdog
Having some trouble with my defragment task. I set up a scheduled task to
wake the computer and run defragment. The computer at the appropriate time
starts, but shuts off approximately 2 minutes later for a minute, then
starts up again only to keep repeating this until I actually logon. I have
the timer for the power profile under the main user to sleep after 2 hours,
but this keeps...

Vista Home Premium by
Yves Dubeau
There is a very annoying behavior on my computer. The issue is that when I
open a window at times it collapses to the bottom task bar. An example is
while composing an e-mail then moving the mouse to send the window might
collapse and one think that the message was sent, however later on you see
the collapse window in the bottom or two days later you see your e-mail in
your draft folder....

Readyboost performance by
Bill Leary
Where should I be looking to examine performance or operational statistics
for Readyboost on my system?
I put the USB drive it, got the usual alert, and it claimed to have put the
drive into operation, but I haven't been able to either verify that it's
actually being used or to examine anything about how it's doing it's job.

Two new laptops crashed! by
camcam
Bought one laptop, crashed for one day use; Changed another one, crashed for
20 days use. I just feel that Vista looks beautiful but has nothing
practical, and it is not compatible with many softwares. I guess it very
easily hurts memory.

Backup problem using Windows XP by
Brislon
For the first time, I'm trying to backup files using Windows XP.
As the system apparently won't let you backup to a DVD, I'm trying to backup
to an external hard-drive instead.
However, the 'Backup or Restore Wizard' is only identifying the D drive
(which is my DVD Re-writer.
Using the browse button to find my external drive is not working (despite
the fact that I can access data on the...

My primary SATA disk has win xp. I installed vista on the secondary SATA
drive. At the start-up I get a menu to allow me to select vista or earlier

Would this in any way effect my running of vista from secondary disk? If so
is there any way I can disconnect vista set-up from the primary (xp) disk
before doing...

my desktop PC is waking itself up! annoying! by
A L
Hello-
I've been putting my PC to sleep instead of shutting down. Every few days,
my computer will wake itself back up- which is annoying. Looking in the
Event Viewer, under System, the first message is:
The system detected that network adapter Local Area Connection was connected
to the network, and has initiated normal operation.
And so it seems to have something to do with the ethernet...

Screen going black by
Wendy
When I am working with Office (just installed 2007) switching between Word
and Excel files, sometimes the screen will black out. The taskbar will
relocate to the top, which you can see, and when you run the curser over the
black screen, it will sometimes show bits and pieces of the documents. I am
also using a WAVpedal, which plays digital voice files. I'm not sure why
this is happening,...

Phone call from Dell by

I had a call today from Dell warranty support and they told me that my XPS
410 has an incomplete version of Vista. Supposedly Dell was told by
Microsoft that Vista was ready so they used it on the new computers they
shipped out. Dell said to be patient, that there is a patch being put out
by Microsoft the beginning of next month. This patch is supposed to fix the
drivers and improve the...
