Question about disk space by
mikelam
I just got window vista with my new laptop. However, I found out that I'm
using way more disk space than the software says it would.
I've installed a 2GB software on my window xp and it's fine, but when I
install it on my vista, 4.2 GB of space is used instead. I tried uninstalling
the software, but it only gave me 1.4GB of space left. When I install it
again, I lost another 4.2 GB, so it...

Unzip speed needs serious improvement by
patchme
I have a new HP a1740n with Intel Core 2 CPU 6300 @1.86 GHz & 1.87 GHz and
2038 MB of RAM. The machine has Vista Home Premium installed. I have owned
the machine 10 days and have only installed office 2003. Today, I tried to
unzip a 20 MB zip file containing 1,500 files and it took an unbelievable 28
minutes. 28 minutes!!!
I couldn't believe that this was accurate, but some quick...

Control panel doesn't load.... by
Hexen525
I wanted to uninstall a game that I can't get working on Vista so I clicked
my Control Panel link to get into it...my screen flashed a white box(about
the size of the Control Panel window), then vanishes. My cursor indicates
that my computer is doing something for about 10-15 seconds after, then
stops.
At first I thought it might be missing an update, so I clicked on the link
for Windows...

Unexpected shutdown and reboot? by
manitou man
I've been having this problem with Windows Vista Ultimate where if I leave my
machine downloading unattended it will shut down and reboot on it's own. When
I log back in it tells me that Windows was shut down unexpectedly and
searches for a solution but finds nothing. I've heard people saying that if
your processor overheats it will shut down the PC but it would not reboot on
it's own. I've...

Vista Slow Startup by
SteveS
I am haveing a issue with the slow load of startup programs. After I get to
the Vista start up screen it takes ~ 1min 30 secs before all the startup
programs load and the network is connected. I have just clean installed the
system and the only thing which is loading is a color profile for the screen,
Norton Internet Protect, Sigma Tel Audio, and Intel Desktop Utilities, all of
which are...

CPU running high on one core. by
Brian
I am seeing high CPU utilization on one core of my core 2 duo proc. one core
stays approximately 60-80% even with minimal os services and no extra apps
running. The other core shows no more than 10% at any time, unless
loading/executing an application. Task manager shows the utilization, but
Processes show system idle at around 95%. I can't seem to track down what is
taking the cpu time or...

Readyboost Operating as Normal Priority = Bad by
Ben Enfield
To all, and especially those readyboost programmers:
I have been using a 4 gig flash drive to accommodate readyboost. This, I
thought, would speed up my computer. Normally I am correct, but during
startup, my computer is anything but quick. I first noticed the problem
when I couldn't open Outlook within ten minutes of booting my computer, and
it became more apparent when I was trying to...

extremely long boot times by
xide
I rarely shut down my computer, however last night i installed some
"optional" updates and rebooted, and I noticed that the load time is
extremely long. I'm not quite sure if this was before or after the
updates.
Here are my system specs:
Intel core 2 duo 6600 @ 2.4 Ghz
Asus Striker extreme motherboard
4 GB DDR2 OCZ Titanium 800Mhz
150 GB Raptor as primary

How do you restore files from an incomplete/corrupt Vista backup by
Crexis
Hope someone can point me in the right direction on this one:
Basically, we had a new Vista Business PC that was misbehaving and dog slow.
After trying all sorts of tweaks with virt mem, AV, themes, etc I decided to
do a reinstall.
It is a Asus P5LDT-TVM board (Intel 945G chipset) with a Dual Core (PD-935)
3Ghz CPU, 512Mb (DDR2-667) RAM & 80Gb SATA 7200rpm HDD. I know the RAM is a
little on...

Windows Explorer resources question by
Wes
Is there a place where I can manually submit a possible bug or issue with
windows explorer? (windowsvista 64bit ultimate edition)
details:
I just noticed that my windows explorer is using 50% of my CPU (love the
dashboard widgets!). What seems odd to me, is that if I drag the window size
smaller, the CPU load goes down accordingly. Full screen = 50% CPU load.
1/4 screen = 00% (which is where...
