No Spam
Hello,
I have multiple drives in my PC. My 'C' drive (a speedy 10k 36gig scsi
drive) has Vista and applications installed. I have two Seagate 400gig
SATA2 drives serve has daya drives.
I would like to transfer my settings of 'My Documents' or 'Documents' to the
'D' drives rather than the default 'C' drive. I note that Vista is a bit
different in that it has a 'Documents' folder that does...

Updates Issue by
befuddled
While I was in email, I received a message about updates having been
performed on my Vista Home Premium. There were several "ha ha's" in the
message. I was given the option to restart now or restart later, but I
couldn't restart later. I found this very annoying and wonder if anyone else
has encountered this problem. I don't want to have to stop working every
time this ha-ha thing takes...

system processes by
cvduhn
The problem is my computer runs about 70-100+ system processes all at
the same time(normally it ran about 25). The majority of these is
SVCHOST.exe, I know this is a required system process, but 15 of them
run 5mb - 50mb of RAM each. This causes about 600-800mb of my RAM to
be used constantly. This problem has only been around for about 5
days. I ran a System Restore, and the problem is still...

Router Problem by
paulv
Hi everyone,
I've installed the Ultimate version and along with it IE 7.0
Since then I can not connect with my router which is web based configured.
Every time I try to access my router's page, I get the logon window and I
type the username and password. But it's not accepted and the message
"HTTP/1.0 401 Authorization Required" appears. I try to connect from my
laptop with IE 6 and it's...

Vista 64 - strange boot up by
Paul Graham
Running Vista 64 - clean install on formatted HD.
One of the other HDs (I have three) had XP Pro installed.
Now I can't reformat the XP Pro HD, as Vista refuses to delete the main
system folders. If i unplug the XP HD before boot up, I get an error message
saying that BootMgr is missing. The same thing happens if I fail to keep the
Vista CD in the drive whilst booting up. Arrrgh!
I did have a...

Vista continually re-installs the same update by
JanZientek
Vista keeps informing me that an update is available. the specific update
(MSXML 4.0 SP2 Security Updat (KB927978)), published 11/13/2006 is already
installed. Actually, this update has been installed (and is listed as such)
11 times. How do I get Vista to recognize that this update is installed?

Help! nVidia 7950GX2 graphics card driver problem by
Moody Marco
Ok, I went into device manager and noticed my drivers for the above gfx card
were 7.10, dated 2006 sometime.
Now I've always been told it's very important to have the latest gfx card
drivers, so I went to nVidia's site to check for newer ones, and they had
Vista drivers 7.15 dated Feb 07.
After installing them everything *seems* ok, except in Device Manager now I
have 2 entries for...

Vista root image back-up useless by
Per
I did a full system backup before switching to another raid controller. I
used the same two HD's but Vista would not restore to the partition because
the volume space (free gigabyte) was not the same?!? I am guessing the
problem is that the new RAID0 volume is a few MB smaller than the original,
but is there no way to just ignore that and unpack the back-up anyway?

Language Pack Installer by
Dante Alighieri
I downloaded a Language Pack Installer (182 MB) so I can patch my English
version of Windows Vista Ultimate to work in Spanish language. But when I
try to install the program it begins to decompress into the same folder and
when it ends the obtained file stays for about three seconds and then it
DISAPPEARS. What's going on? Please help me for I am really puzzled.

Slow User Switching by
Dan Bourque
Please help. The exact same PC used to have Windows XP Pro, and FUS was very
fast. Now that I've upgraded to Vista, FUS takes about 40 seconds just to
get to the account selection page. Then another 10 seconds to switch to the
already logged in account.
I've looked at the Performance/Reliability logs, but nothing jumps out. How
can I figure out what's taking so long? I've tried...

Help!! Vista suddenly goes crazy! by
MeNotKnow
You don't really need to protect the Internet from your computer by blocking
outgoing traffic. If you're doing this to try to detect malware that's
already infected your computer, chances of that working are slim to none. So
you might consider just leaving the firewall as-is. I've used the built-in
firewall with the default settings since it was the ICF in the first release
of Windows XP and...

Vista Home Premium & Windows Live Messenger by
Moody Marco
Ever since installing Vista HP, I can't sign into WLM - I get error
81000306.
Everything is exactly the same as I had when I had XP MCE on this PC - same
login for WLM, same WLM version, same router, same ISP, everything. And I
never had any problem while using WLM on XP.
I have Windows Firewall turned off, and no other FW software (the same as I
had in XP)

More questions about backup and shadow copy by
Tim
I finally had a hard drive crash, and have successfully recovered using
Complete PC Backup. The recovery was flawless.
But... the backup I had to use was over a week old. My last backup didn't
work because it ran out of space (my fault). However, even though it didn't
complete a backup, it did leave behind a shadow copy in the System Volume
Information folder that is newer than the last...
