What's all this disk activity? by
JediDog
My Lenovo 3000 laptop came with Windows Vista Home Premium. Whenever I start
it up and log on, the hard drive is active for five minutes or more after all
of the startup applications have initialized. The performance monitor shows
a huge number of reads and writes being done by the kernel. I've tried
turning off every feature I can think of, but nothing has any effect. What
is happening?

With paging file option checked - reboot takes 43 minutes to 74 minutes.

I have a multi-boot of XP and Vista on separate partitions and also have
several data partitions.
If I do a Complete PC Backup, will I be able to restore just my XP or just
my Vista if I want to leave one of them just the way it is and restore the
other? Or must everything get overwritten when I restore - both operating
systems AND my files on my data partition too!!!???
I would like to use...

Restore support for tape backup by
Andrew
Hi
I back up using tapes and and am disappointed that tape support has been
dropped in Vista backup. Please offer this as an addon for those who want it.
Vista users, why not suggest this to the Vista team, you never know, they

Flip 3D changed...why? by
Peter
When I Alt-Tab now I don't get the usual display but instead a rectangle in
the centre of the screen containing miniature pics of the pages I have open.
Time for a new video card maybe. It worked with my Vista Beta though so am
puzzled.

Windows Vista sleep problem by
Rbrummy
I am able to manually put Windows Vista to sleep by either the power button
on the Start menu or even by a voice recognition command, but my settings for
sleep after so many minutes does not work. My screensaver comes on after 20
minutes and the system is to sleep after 40 minutes but doesn't. I have a
Logitech wireless mouse, an Epson Perfection USB scanner and 2 HP USB
printers attached....

VISTA - RAM by
Buz Fuller
Can anyone tell my why Vista only recognizes 2 gig of RAM, even when I have
4 gig installed?
My BIOS sees 4 gig. I may not be the smartest person in the world, but why
would a MB manufacture sell a MB that supports up to 8 gig ram, when the OS
only sees 2 gig?
Any help or explanation will be appreciated.

Large System Volume Information Folder by
Tim
I've got a 2nd drive (D:) that I use just for backing up Drive C. There is
a System Volume Information folder on that drive that is taking up 60GB. My
understanding is that this folder contains restore points. The problem is
this: when I go to System Properties, System Protection tab, Drive D is not
checked and it says there are no restore points for that drive. (Of course
C: is checked,...

The thread is: kernel32.dll!CreateThread+0x22
I can not kill the thread and i haven't found any topics on the internet
that have had this kind of problem.

Vista Backup & Restore - Restore problem (08x10000e4) by
NickT
I had to re-install my entire Vista system on my PC yesterday back to how it
was set up when it left the factory. Prior to that I'd been doing regular
backups into a backup set which contained initial full backup followed by 4
incrementals.
When I came to run the restore on the newly re-installed system I got the
above error message and text suggesting something was wrong with the backup...
